Background: An anal histological high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (hHSIL) is an anal cancer precursor. Experts recommend Dacron swab anal cytology as a primary screen for anal hHSILs, especially among human immunodeficiency virus-infected and -uninfected men who have sex with men (MSM). Studies have shown that Dacron cytology inaccurately predicts anal hHSILs and results in unnecessary diagnostic procedures.

Although less than half the cases of DCIS will progress to invasive disease, most women are treated aggressively with surgery, radiation, and/or hormone therapy due to the inability to clinically evaluate the extent and location of the disease. Intraductal therapy, in which a drug is administered directly into the mammary duct through the nipple, is a promising approach for treating DCIS, but the feasibility of instilling drug into a diseased duct has not been established.

Three years after his initial lesion of the scalp, a 34-year-old Egyptian man was found to have two brain metastases and an 11-cm left renal metastasis with a tumor thrombus in the renal vein. After resection of the brain metastases, with no evidence of additional metastases, the patient underwent left radical nephrectomy and tumor venous thrombectomy.

Methods: A population-based case-control study was conducted in Yangzhong County, Jiangsu Province, China, with 355 histologically confirmed esophageal squamous cell carcinoma cases recruited between 1 January 2004 and 28 February 2006 and 408 controls matched by sex and age, randomly selected from the local population.
Results: Stratified logistic regression analysis by sex revealed that hot-temperature food items, pork braised in brown sauce and old stocked rice intake could increase the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma with odds ratio of 2.
Purpose: We examined the associations between plasma micronutrients and bladder cancer risk, and evaluated the combined effects of carotenoid and cigarette smoke.
Materials And Methods: We performed a case-control study in 242 patients with bladder cancer and 204 healthy controls at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1993 to 1997. Epidemiological data and blood specimens were collected on 84 cases and 173 controls.
Epidemiologic data have suggested that green tea may prevent breast cancer. Studies in our laboratory have provided evidence that green tea extract inhibits breast cancer growth by a direct anti-proliferative effect on the tumor cells, as well as by indirect suppressive effects on the tumor-associated endothelial cells. In this study, we asked whether concurrent administration of green tea may add to the anti-tumor effects of standard breast cancer therapy.

In this study, we examined the inhibitory effects of certain individual components of PC-SPES on the in vitro proliferation of the human breast cancer cells MDA-MB231 and the human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Our data showed that individual components of PC-SPES had varying suppressive effects on cellular proliferation, and that Rabdosia rubescens appeared to be the most potent agent in these assays.
