Sulfur autotrophic denitrification (SAD) occurs without organic carbon sources, offering advantages in removing nitrogen pollutants from water with low carbon to nitrogen ratio. However, ensuring nitrate-reducing sulfide-oxidizing bacteria ability to access the necessary sulfur and inorganic carbon sources is a challenge. Therefore, this study investigated the feasibility of utilizing a SAD composite filler to mitigate nitrogen and phosphorus pollutants concentrations in secondary effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and reduce eutrophication risk in the receiving water.

Background: Skin tear (ST) is a public health problem in older adults; they substantially increase the risk of complications and cause serious adverse consequences and health care burden.

Aim: To estimate the pooled prevalence and incidence of ST among older adults.

Methods: Ten databases were systematically searched from their inception to July 27, 2023.

Background: Tension-type headache (TTH) is the most common neurologic disease worldwide. Acupuncture is commonly applied to treat TTH, but evidence of acupuncture for TTH is contradictory based on previous meta-analyses. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to update the evidence of acupuncture for TTH and aimed to provide a valuable reference for clinical application.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for post-stroke spasticity.

Methods: Nine electronic databases were searched from their inception to 6 June 2022, to identify randomized-controlled trials (RCTs) that investigated the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for post-stroke spasticity. Two reviewers independently screened the studies, extracted the data, assessed the risk of bias.

Introduction: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is characterized by focal and segmental obliteration of glomerular capillary tufts with increased matrix and usually associated with nephrotic range proteinuria. FSGS is a huge burden to society; however, the mechanisms remain unclear and treatment is still lacking.

Methods: Adriamycin nephropathy was induced by Adriamycin injection and some mice were also injected with Anti-miR-155-5p LNA or YC-1 (a pharmacological inhibitor of HIF-1).

To observe the protective effect of alpha-mangostin (α-MG) on focal segmental glomurular sclerosis (FSGS) induced by adriamycin.
Methods: Adriamycin nephropathy (AN) model was induced by adriamycin (10 mg/kg) via a tail vein. Then the mice were treated with α-MG (12.

This study was conducted to define the taxonomic status of Spermophilus in the plague area of Dingbian County in Shaanxi Province, China, through the two-factor variance analysis of morphological characteristics, DNA barcoding, and chromosome karyotype analysis. The Spermophilus samples collected from Dingbian and Zhengxiang Baiqi Counties exhibited significant differences in their morphological measurements. All Spermophilus samples form two distinct branches in neighbor-joining (NJ) tree.

The type of immune response elicited against HSV-2 infection may be a factor in the frequency and severity of recurrent disease, with non-recurrent status being associated with a Th1-like response. As administration of glycoprotein D subunit formulated with an aluminum-based adjuvant induces predominantly Th2-like immune responses, we sought to assess the ability of IL-12 to redirect anti-HSV immunity towards a Th1 response. Co-administration of gD with IL-12 resulted in gD-specific antibody subclass switching from predominantly IgG1 observed in mice immunized with either gD or gD/AlPO4 to a more balanced combination of IgG1 and IgG2a, and enhanced virus neutralizing activity.
