Purpose: To investigate the prognostic value of skull-base invasion (SBI) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), propose a subclassification of SBI.

Methods: 792 and 433 patients with pathologically proven NPC and complete clinical and magnetic resonance imaging records at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Foshan Hospital were enrolled, and investigated using heat map/cluster, network and survival analyses.

Results: The results of heat map/cluster analyses and network analysis showed that T3 patients with pterygoid process and/or base of the sphenoid bone invasion (T3 slight) had better treatment outcomes than those with other SBIs (T3 severe).

The applications of metallic nanoclusters and nanoparticles in biological sensing have attracted special attention owing to their optical interaction based on fluorescence and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). In this work, we designed a fluorescent nanoprobe for the determination of L-cysteine (L-Cys) based on fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) from gold‑silver bimetallic nanoclusters (Au-Ag NCs) to gold nanorods (AuNRs). Firstly, the negatively charged Au-Ag NCs protected by bovine serum albumin (BSA) are directly adsorbed on the surface of the positively charged AuNRs through electrostatic interaction, and the FRET effect leads to distinct fluorescence quenching of Au-Ag NCs at 615nm.

The aim of the study is to verify the effect of hyperglycemia on ischemia-reperfusion injury and to explore the feasibility of noninvasive observation of ischemic-reperfusion injury in hyperglycemic ischemic stroke by MRI technique. According to the duration of ischemia and blood glucose levels, 40 rats were divided into hyperglycemic ischemic 2-hr (H-I2h), hyperglycemic ischemic 6-hr (H-I6h), non- hyperglycemic ischemic 2-hr (NH-I2h), and non- hyperglycemic ischemic 6-hr (NH-I6h) groups.
