  • Flavonoids, particularly 7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF) and 7-hydroxyflavone (7-HF), were studied for their antioxidant properties in RAW264.7 cells subjected to oxidative stress.
  • Using various assays, the study found that 7,8-DHF exhibited stronger antioxidant effects than 7-HF by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels while enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity.
  • The mechanisms revealed that 7,8-DHF inhibited cellular damage pathways and boosted protective proteins, indicating its potential as a drug to combat oxidative stress injuries.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are potent antigen-presenting cells (APCs) that are essential in mediating the body's natural and adaptive immune responses. The body can regulate the function of DCs in various ways to enhance their antitumor effects. In the tumour microenvironment (TME), antigen-specific T cell responses are initiated through DC processing and delivery of tumour-associated antigens (TAAs); conversely, tumour cells inhibit DC recruitment by releasing metabolites, cytokines and other regulatory TME and function.

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumor types in the world and the majority of patients have already reached the advanced stage at the time of initial diagnosis, owing to the subtle symptoms of gastric cancer in the early stage and the low rate of screening in the population. Surgical resection is one of the main treatments for advanced gastric cancer; however, the efficacy of surgery is limited by factors such as low radical resection rate and high distant metastasis rate. A large number of clinical trials have indicated that neoadjuvant therapy (NAT), which consists of neoadjuvant chemotherapy, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and NAT combined with targeted therapy, may improve the therapeutic effect and prognosis of patients to different degrees.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) in soils drives biogeochemical cycling and soil functions in different directions depending on its molecular signature. Notably, there is a distinct paucity of information concerning how the molecular signatures of soil DOM vary with different degrees of weathering across wide geographic scales. Herein, we resolved the DOM molecular signatures from 22 diverse Chinese reference soils and linked them with soil organic matter and weathering-related mineralogical properties.

Background: The global outbreak of human severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)-2 infection represents an urgent need for readily available, accurate and rapid diagnostic tests. Nucleic acid testing of respiratory tract specimens for SARS-CoV-2 is the current gold standard for diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, the diagnostic accuracy of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests for detecting SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid may be lower than optimal.

  • This study explored how computed tomography (CT) radiomics can predict HER2 status in gastric cancer patients, aiming to improve understanding of tumor characteristics.
  • It involved the analysis of CT images from 132 patients who underwent surgery, using a training group of 90 and a test group of 42 to develop and validate predictive models.
  • The results indicated that the arterial phase (AP) radiomics model effectively distinguished HER2-negative cases with good accuracy, demonstrating the potential of using standard CT images in oncological assessments.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how CT radiomics can help distinguish intestinal-type gastric adenocarcinomas before surgery using images from 187 patients.
  • Researchers used a random forest algorithm to develop models and a nomogram that incorporated radiomics scores from multiple CT phases.
  • The findings indicated that the multiphase CT radiomics nomogram was effective, achieving high performance in distinguishing these types of cancers, with excellent AUC results in both training and test sets.

Rationale And Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the value of computed tomography (CT) radiomics for the differentiation between T2 and T3/4 stage lesions in gastric cancer.

Materials And Methods: A total of 244 consecutive patients with pathologically proven gastric cancer were retrospectively included and split into a training cohort (171 patients) and a test cohort (73 patients). Preoperative arterial phase and portal phase contrast enhanced CT images were retrieved for tumor segmentation and feature extraction by using a dedicated postprocessing software.

  • The study aimed to identify the best keV setting for visualizing gastric cancer using virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) and assess their effectiveness on a new type of CT scanner.
  • A total of 82 patients were analyzed for image quality at varying keVs (40-70 keV) and compared to standard 120 kVp images, focusing on contrast-to-noise ratio and subjective ratings of image quality.
  • Results showed that VMIs at 40 keV had superior image quality and diagnostic accuracy, particularly for detecting early-stage gastric cancer, compared to the traditional 120 kVp images.

Article Synopsis
  • MiR-27 shows significant expression in heart development and its role in myocarditis is unclear, prompting a study to explore its biological characteristics in injured heart cells (H9c2).
  • The research involved treating H9c2 cells with LPS to induce damage, and then manipulating miR-27 levels to assess effects on cell viability and apoptosis, while evaluating its interaction with ICAM1 through various assays.
  • Results indicated that low miR-27 levels due to LPS treatment increased cell death, whereas restoring miR-27 enhanced cell survival and reduced apoptosis, suggesting miR-27 protects against injury by modulating ICAM1 and NF-κB pathway activities.

Acupuncture can improve the cognitive state of Alzheimer's disease, but its mechanism is not clear. Dendritic atrophy and synaptic loss in Alzheimer's disease brain are positively correlated with cognitive damage. Therefore, we speculated that the effect of acupuncture on improving cognitive function may be associated with reduced dendritic damage in the brain.
