Background: Fishes are susceptible to hypoxia stress, while the common carp is known for its high tolerance to hypoxia. The hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway directly regulates the cell's response to hypoxia. Still, it is currently unknown which members of the hif-α genes are present in common carp and their specific functions.

Background: In single-isocenter multitarget stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), geometric miss risks arise from uncertainties in intertarget position. However, its assessment is inadequate, and may be interfered by the reconstructed tumor position errors (RPEs) during simulated CT and cone beam CT (CBCT) acquisition. This study aimed to quantify intertarget position variations and assess factors influencing it.

Article Synopsis
  • - Sepsis leads to serious heart issues through inflammation and oxidative stress, and this study focuses on FTO, a regulator in mA methylation, and its effects on septic cardiomyopathy.
  • - Animal and cell models showed that ferroptosis, an iron-dependent form of cell death, occurs in heart cells during sepsis, but overexpressing FTO can reduce this process and improve heart health and survival.
  • - The study suggests that FTO works in tandem with BACH1, a molecule that counteracts FTO's effects, indicating that targeting this interaction and using ferroptosis inhibitors could be effective treatments for heart problems caused by sepsis.

After spinal cord injury (SCI), significant alterations in the tissue microenvironment lead to mitochondrial dysfunction, inducing apoptosis and inhibiting the remodeling of neural circuits, thereby impeding recovery. Although previous studies have demonstrated a marked decrease in pH at the injury site, creating an acidic microenvironment, the impact of improving this acidic microenvironment on SCI recovery has not been investigated. This study prepared a lysine@hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticle/gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) (L@H/G) composite hydrogel.

Conjugated polymers with oligoether side chains make up a promising class of thermoelectric materials. In this work, the impact of the side-chain length on the thermoelectric and mechanical properties of polythiophenes is investigated. Polymers with tri-, tetra-, or hexaethylene glycol side chains are compared, and the shortest length is found to result in thin films with the highest degree of order upon doping with the p-dopant 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (FTCNQ).

Purpose: Determine the prevalence and influencing factors of patient delay in stroke patients and explore variation in prevalence by country and delayed time.

Methods: PubMed, The Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedical Database (CBM), Weipu database, and Wanfang database were comprehensively searched for observational studies from inception to April, 2023. The pooled prevalence, odds ratio (OR), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated with Stata 16.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial damage significantly contributes to mortality in sepsis, and this study investigates the role of the microRNA miR-29b-1-5p in this context.
  • The researchers used sepsis models in mice and HL-1 cardiomyocytes, showing that inhibiting miR-29b-1-5p improves cardiac function and survival following sepsis-induced injury.
  • The study reveals that miR-29b-1-5p inhibition reduces myocardial tissue damage and fibrosis, lowers inflammatory cytokine levels, and reverses the activation of autophagy and apoptosis pathways in heart tissues.

Ni-rich LiNiCoMnO (NCM811) is considered the most prominent cathode material to establish a practical high energy density of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) for future electric vehicles. The energy density of LIBs is greatly determined by the capacity of electrode materials and the operating voltage of the cells. To further improve the cycle lifespan of NCM811 batteries to meet the requirement of driving range for the electric vehicle market, it is vital to design a novel electrolyte additive that can enhance the stability of the cathode/electrolyte interface at a wide range of voltage.

The main purpose of the current study was to assess the levels of trace elements (iron, lead, zinc, copper, and manganese) in both water and fish muscles of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) in the Kunhar River during the development of the Suki Kinari hydropower project (SKHPP). Additionally, the aim was to shed light on the potential health hazards associated with the consumption of fish by residents. Surface water and fish (muscle and liver) from ten specific sampling locations in the Mansehra district (affected by an SKHPP) along the river were examined to determine the levels of trace elements.

Muscle fiber is the basic unit of skeletal muscle with strong self-adaptability, and its type is closely related to meat quality. Myod family inhibitor (Mdfi) has the function of regulating myogenic regulatory factors during cell differentiation, but how Mdfi regulates muscle fiber type transformation in myoblasts is still unclear. In the present study, we constructed overexpressing and interfering with Mdfi C2C12 cell models by lipofection.

Water pollution, which is caused by leakage of oily substances, has been recognized as one of the most serious global environmental pollutions endangering the ecosystem. High-quality porous materials with superwettability, which are typically constructed in the form of aerogels, hold huge potential in the field of adsorption and removal of oily substances form water. Herein, we developed a facile strategy to fabricate a novel biomass absorbent with a layered tubular/sheet structure for efficient oil/water separation.

Cocrystal engineering as an effective way to modify solid-state properties has inspired great interest from diverse material fields while cocrystal density is an important property closely correlated with the material function. In order to accurately predict the cocrystal density, we develop a graph neural network (GNN)-based deep learning framework by considering three key factors of machine learning (data quality, feature presentation, and model architecture). The result shows that different stoichiometric ratios of molecules in cocrystals can significantly influence the prediction performances, highlighting the importance of data quality.

Reconstruction of natural streamflow is fundamental to the sustainable management of water resources. In China, previous reconstructions from sparse and poor-quality gauge measurements have led to large biases in simulation of the interannual and seasonal variability of natural flows. Here we use a well-trained and tested land surface model coupled to a routing model with flow direction correction to reconstruct the first high-quality gauge-based natural streamflow dataset for China, covering all its 330 catchments during the period from 1961 to 2018.
