Antimicrobial genes are distributed in all forms of life and provide a primary defensive shield due to their unique broad-spectrum resistance activities. To better isolate these genes, we used the expression system as the host cells to build Griff cDNA libraries and screen potential candidate genes from the library at higher flux using built-in indicator bacteria. We observed that the antimicrobial peptides OrR214 and OrR935 have strong antimicrobial activity against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as several fungal pathogens.

In this study, we used RNA-seq to analyze the muscle and liver tissues of black carps (Mylopharyngodon piceus) of different growth rates from the same batch to evaluate their growth traits. We have two groups; they are the black carp group with fast-growth rate and the slow-growth rate. In the present work, a lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent was prepared by a simple precipitation process, and its arsenic removal performances and adsorption mechanisms were investigated by batch experiments and various techniques including field emission scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectrophotometry (FESEM-EDX), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (p-XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The influence of pH on arsenic removal showed that the lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent can effectively remove As(V) from solution, whereas the As(III) removal was very low, indicating that the lanthanum hydroxide adsorbent can selectively remove As(V) but not As(III). The isotherm study showed that the maximum adsorption capacities of As(V) at pH 5.

A novel tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivative-decorated lanthanide nanomaterial NaLnF (denoted as TPEBA-Ln, Ln = Gd, Tb and Eu) was hydrothermally synthesized using (4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl) boronic acid (TPEBA)-modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a coating ligand. Interestingly, the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) of the TPE moiety was activated because the intramolecular rotation of TPEBA was restricted via the esterification of TPEBA with PVA. More excitingly, it was found for the first time that the TPEBA-based ligand could further act as a donor and transfer energy to the lanthanide nanoparticle (Ln = Eu and Tb) acceptor in this TPEBA-Ln system.

A simple D-π-A structured tetraphenylethylene with two electron-rich methyloxy groups and two electron withdrawing cyano groups, which features both twisted intramolecular charge-transfer (TICT) and aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties, namely TPEOMeCN has been prepared. The emission of TPEOMeCN examined in various solvents is dependent on the polarities of solvents, which indicates the TICT character.
