Post-operative venous thromboembolism in patients after extracranial otologic surgery: A case series.

Objective: This study aimed to report 9 venous thromboembolism (VTE) cases after extracranial otologic surgery and analyze the potential risk factors.

Study Design: Case series.

Setting: Single tertiary-level academic center.

Case report: Sphenoid wing dural arteriovenous fistula draining into ophthalmic veins inducing pulsatile tinnitus as the sole symptom and its spontaneous closure.

This case report discusses a unique instance of pulsatile tinnitus (PT) caused by a rare type of intracranial dural arteriovenous fistula (DAVF) located in the sphenoid wing (SW) region, with PT being the sole presenting symptom. The patient initially received multiple misdiagnoses and sought medical attention at various hospitals before being correctly diagnosed. Imaging studies revealed the DAVF's presence in the SW region, which led to the patient's referral to interventional radiology/neurology, although she chose conservative observation without surgical intervention.

Analysis of cognitive function and its related factors after treatment in Meniere's disease.

A growing body of research recently suggested the association between vestibular dysfunction and cognitive impairment. Meniere's disease (MD), a common clinical vestibular disorder, is usually accompanied by hearing loss and emotional stress, both of which may mediate the relationship between vestibule dysfunction and cognition. It is currently unknown whether the cognitive decline in MD patients could improve through treatment and how it relates to multiple clinical characteristics, particularly the severity of vertigo.
