Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how exercise and vitamin D supplementation affect arterial stiffness and lipid metabolism in Type 2 diabetes patients.
  • A 12-week program involved participants engaging in moderate to vigorous exercise with some receiving vitamin D.
  • Results showed that vitamin D helped prevent decreases in ankle-brachial index and highlighted that certain lipid predictors could significantly improve predictions related to blood pressure changes and arterial stiffness.
  • Overall, vitamin D supplementation was beneficial in reducing arterial stiffness compared to conventional clinical methods.

The simultaneous presence of microplastics (MPs) and cadmium (Cd) in soil environments has raised concerns regarding their potential interactive effects on soil-plant ecosystems. This study explores how polyethylene (PE) at concentrations of 0.5 % (w/w), 1 % (w/w), and 2 % (w/w), and Cd at concentrations of 3 mg kg and 12 mg kg, either alone or combined, impact soil physicochemical properties, microbial community structures, and bok choy growth through a 40-day pot experiment.

In this paper, the effect of ultrasonic treatment on the oral processing characteristics of Mianning ham was investigated. A sensory evaluation team of 10 evaluators with food professional background was involved in food mastication and dough collection. Oral processing analysis of ultrasonically treated hams was performed using particle distribution analysis, Headspace Solid-Phase Microextraction Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (SPME-GC-MS), electronic nose, and dynamic dominant sensory attribute testing.

This paper investigates the optimal process for ultrasonic desalination of Mianning ham. The study analyzed various factors such as ultrasonic treatment time, temperature, and power to determine their impact on the rate of desalination of hams. A single factor test was conducted to study the rate of desalination.

We presented a new method for vessel segmentation and vascular structure recognition for coronary angiographic images. During vessel segmentation, a new vessel function was proposed to attain vessel feature map. Then the region growing algorithm was implemented with an automatic selection of seed point, extraction of main vessel branch, and vessel detail repairing.

Tigers and their close relatives (Panthera) are some of the world's most endangered species. Here we report the de novo assembly of an Amur tiger whole-genome sequence as well as the genomic sequences of a white Bengal tiger, African lion, white African lion and snow leopard. Through comparative genetic analyses of these genomes, we find genetic signatures that may reflect molecular adaptations consistent with the big cats' hypercarnivorous diet and muscle strength.
