Metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is becoming a prevalent chronic liver disease. Many medicinal and edible herbs exhibit remarkable biological activities in ameliorating MAFLD but lack a comprehensive assessment of their therapeutic efficacy. This study determined total phenolic and flavonoid contents and in vitro antioxidant properties of 34 edible herbs.

Article Synopsis
  • Berberine hydrochloride (BH) is a beneficial compound with low oral bioavailability, prompting researchers to create a new delivery system called BH-loaded self-microemulsifying drug delivery system (BH-SMEDDS) to improve its effectiveness.
  • The optimal BH-SMEDDS formulation consisted of specific percentages of Capmul MCM, Kolliphor RH 40, and 1,2-propanediol, resulting in stable physicochemical properties and rapid self-emulsification.
  • In tests, the new delivery system showed a significant increase in BH release and achieved 1.63 times higher oral bioavailability than standard BH tablets, indicating its potential for better clinical use.

Thyroid cancer is one of the most common primary endocrine malignancies worldwide, and papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the predominant histological type observed therein. Although PTC has been studied extensively, our understanding of the altered metabolism and metabolic profile of PTC tumors is limited. We identified that the content of metabolite homogentisic acid (HGA) in PTC tissues was lower than that in adjacent non-cancerous tissues.

Ga-labeled fibroblast activation protein inhibitor (Ga-FAPI) PET/CT has demonstrated promising clinical results, with a higher SUV and tumor-to-background ratio (TBR) in breast cancer (BC) patients than F-FDG PET/CT. Here, we aimed to evaluate the suitability of Ga-FAPI PET/CT for the early and late prediction of the pathologic response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in BC. Twenty-two consecutive patients with newly diagnosed BC and an indication for NAC were prospectively included.

Tamoxifen-based endocrine therapy remains a major adjuvant therapy for estrogen receptor (ER)-positive breast cancer (BC). However, many patients develop tamoxifen resistance, which results in recurrence and poor prognosis. Herein, we show that fatty acid oxidation (FAO) was activated in tamoxifen-resistant (TamR) ER-positive BC cells by performing bioinformatic and functional studies.

N-methyladenosine modification and lncRNAs are closely related to the prognosis and immunotherapy response of breast cancer patients. LncRNAs related to m A-associated genes were predicted based on coexpression analysis of the TCGA database. We established a novel 7-m A-associated lncRNA signature for predicting patient prognosis and validated it.

Background: The clinical outcome of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is poor. Finding more targets for the treatment of TNBC is an urgent need. SENPs are SUMO-specific proteins that play an important role in SUMO modification.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have been applied in prevention from allograft rejection based on their immunomodulatory effects. However, conflicting results have been presented among recent studies, for which one possibility being acknowledged is that the exact effect is determined by the microenvironment when MSCs are applied in vivo. Using a hind limb composite tissue allograft model, we investigate the influence of IFN-γ-preconditioning on the immunomodulatory effects of MSCs and the subsequent allograft survival.

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of the latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap in repair of large complex tissue defects of limb and the relaying posterior intercostal artery perforator flap in repair of donor defect after latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap transfer.

Methods: Between January 2016 and May 2017, 9 patients with large complex tissue defects were treated. There were 8 males and 1 female with a median age of 33 years (range, 21-56 years).

This study aims to evaluate the difference of central lymph node metastases (LNM) in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) associated with or without Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) in predicting lateral node metastasis. A retrospective case control study was performed. Patients (1276) with PTC who underwent a total or near-total thyroidectomy with at least one lymph node dissection in our institution were retrospectively reviewed.
