In this study, a two-stage system, involving plasma degradation coupled with plasma-assisted catalytic oxidation, was developed for the degradation of polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) at low temperatures. The dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma contributed reactive oxygen species (ROS) for the degradation of PS-MPs, and the plasma-assisted Hopcalite catalyst selectively facilitated the final oxidation of by-products to CO. Within 60 min, the conversion rate of PS-MPs to CO, α(CO), reached an impressive 98.

Article Synopsis
  • DOCK8 deficiency is a primary immunodeficiency caused by mutations in exon 45 of the DOCK8 gene, leading to symptoms like high serum IgE, eczema, and increased infections.
  • Using CRISPR/Cas9, researchers created a mouse model with the same exon 45 mutation to study its effects on T cell behavior.
  • The study found that the mutation affects T cell homeostasis, disrupts regulatory T cell development, alters glycolysis in CD4 T cells, and promotes a Th2 response upon infection, providing insights for potential treatments.

Maturation of the secondary antibody repertoire requires class-switch recombination (CSR), which switches IgM to other immunoglobulins (Igs), and somatic hypermutation, which promotes the production of high-affinity antibodies. Following immune response or infection within the body, activation of T cell-dependent and T cell-independent antigens triggers the activation of activation-induced cytidine deaminase, initiating the CSR process. CSR has the capacity to modify the functional properties of antibodies, thereby contributing to the adaptive immune response in the organism.

Abstract-Obesity-related asthma is primarily characterized by nonallergic inflammation, with pathogenesis involving oxidative stress, metabolic imbalance, and immunoinflammatory mechanisms. M1 macrophages, which predominantly secrete pro-inflammatory factors, mediate insulin resistance and systemic metabolic inflammation in obese individuals. Concurrently, adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) serves as a critical regulator of intracellular energy metabolism and is closely associated with macrophage activation.

IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) has complex clinical manifestations ranging from fibrosis and inflammation to deregulated metabolism. The molecular mechanisms underpinning these phenotypes are unclear. In this study, by using IgG4-RD patient peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), IgG4-RD cell lines and Usp25 knockout mice, we show that ubiquitin-specific protease 25 (USP25) engages in multiple pathways to regulate fibrotic and inflammatory pathways that are characteristic to IgG4-RD.

In this study, the atmospheric dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma was proposed for the degradation of polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) for the first time, due to its ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The local temperature in plasma was found to play a crucial role, as it enhanced the degradation reaction induced by ROS when it exceeded the melting temperature of PS-MPs. Factors including applied voltage, air flow rate, and PS-MPs concentration were investigated, and the degradation products were analyzed.
