In order to achieve steady state operation in experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST), a 6 MW/4.6 GHz lower hybrid current drive system with twenty-four 250 kW/4.6 GHz high power klystron amplifiers (model VKC7849A) has been developed.

Several advantages are associated with an atmospheric microwave plasma torch, including low cost, easy processing, and high density of electrons and reactive species. This paper develops a compact microwave plasma torch (CMPT) operating at 2.45 GHz with an ultrabandwidth of 30 MHz.

The lower hybrid current drive (LHCD) is an effective approach for auxiliary heating and non-inductive current drive in the experimental advanced superconducting tokamak. The 6 MW/4.6 GHz LHCD system is being designed and installed with twenty-four 250 KW/4.

Lower-hybrid waves have been shown to induce a cocurrent change in toroidal rotation of up to 40  km/s in the L-mode plasma core region and 20  km/s in the edge of the EAST tokamak. This modification of toroidal rotation develops on different time scales. For the edge, the time scale is no more than 100 ms, but for the core the time scale is around 1 s.
