Bromopyruvate (3-BrPA) is a glycolysis inhibitor that has been reported to have a strong anti-tumour effect in many human tumours. Several studies have reported that 3-BrPA could inhibit glioma progression; however, its role on the interstitial cells in the glioma microenvironment has not been investigated. In previous studies, we found that in the glioma microenvironment, glioma stem cells can induce the malignant transformation of macrophages and dendritic cells.

Article Synopsis
  • NUSAP1 is a protein that stabilizes microtubules and maintains spindle integrity, and its overexpression has been linked to the progression of various cancers, including glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).
  • Research shows that NUSAP1 is significantly up-regulated in GBM tissues compared to non-tumor brain tissues and is associated with poorer overall survival rates in patients.
  • The study also reveals that NUSAP1's expression varies across different GBM subtypes and is linked to genetic abnormalities, suggesting it could be a valuable prognostic biomarker and potential therapeutic target for treating GBM.

Objective: Guanylate binding protein-1 (GBP1) is highly associated with cell proliferation, and can modulate growth and invasiveness of gliomas. The relationship between GBP1 expression and the prognosis of glioma patients is further evaluated for the purpose of investigating whether GBP1 can serve as an predictor for evaluating prognosis of glioma patients.

Methods: GBP1 expression in 528 glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients of The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were investigated, then 103 surgical specimens from glioma patients in our center were further evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how glioma stem-like cells (GSCs) affect the malignancy of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in a tumor environment.
  • GSCs led to significant changes in BMSCs, increasing their growth, invasive behavior, and the expression of certain cell surface markers, especially when BMSCs were exposed to GSCs' environment or factors.
  • The findings indicate that GSCs can transform normal BMSCs into malignant cells through the activation of a gene called TERT, supporting tumor development in experimental models.

Radiotherapy (RT) is useful in managing cancer diseases. In clinical practice, early initiation of RT is crucial for enhancing tumor control. But, delivering precise RT requires a series of pre-RT working processes in a tight staff-cooperation manner.

Background: Frequent multidisciplinary communication is essential in conducting daily radiotherapy (RT) practice. However, traditional oral or paper-based communication has limitations. E-communication has been suggested, but its effects are still not well demarcated in the field of radiation oncology.

The full-length cDNA sequence of Aueh2, a gene encoding an epoxide hydrolase of Aspergillus usamii E001 (abbreviated to AuEH2), was amplified from the total RNA. Synchronously, the complete DNA sequence containing 5', 3' flanking regions, eight exons and seven introns was cloned from the genomic DNA. In addition, a cDNA fragment of Aueh2 encoding a 395-aa AuEH2 was expressed in Escherichia coli.

A novel fluorescence derivatization method combined with HPLC was developed to detect the activity of caspase-3 and -8 in two cell lines (Hela cells and A549 cells) which were activated by low temperature-assisted ultraviolet irradiation (LT-UV), mitomycin C (MMC) and camptothecin during the apoptosis, respectively. Two peptide substrates for either caspase-3 or -8 were designed, of which peptide fragments were obtained by enzymatic modification, followed by fluorescence derivatization. A single fluorescent product was formed when a peptide was heated at 120 °C for 10 min in a neutral aqueous medium (pH 7.
