Microneedle systems (MNs) loading living cells are a powerful platform to treat various previously incurable diseases in the era of precision medicine. Herein, an overview of recent advances in MN-based strategies for cell delivery is summarized, including material selection, design of morphological structures, and processing methods. We also systematically outlined the law of microstructural design relative to the structure-effective/function relationship in transdermal delivery or precision medicine and the design principles of cell microneedle (CMN).

By the time of diagnosis, most ESCC tumors have already invaded the lymph nodes or distant organs; however, it has been challenging to identify and confirm genes with a crucial role in ESCC metastasis. The microfibrillar-associated protein 2 (MFAP2) is upregulated in human ESCC, and its expression level was positively associated with poor overall and disease-free survival.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAnaerobic digestion faces numerous challenges, including high CO content in biogas and volatile fatty acids (such as propionate) accumulation in digestate. To address these issues, an up-flow dual-chamber electrocatalytic anaerobic bioreactor (UF-DC-EAB) was developed to enhance propionate degradation through microbial symbiosis while improving biogas quality via CO electromethanogenesis. Under the extreme conditions with propionate as the primary carbon source at 6-h HRT, the UF-DC-EAB achieved a propionate removal efficiency of 72.

Depression is a serious cognitive disorder that results in significant and pervasive deficits in social behavior. These deficits can be traced back to the intricate interplay between social, psychological, and biological factors. Inflammatory depression, a treatment-resistant or non-responsive subtype of depression, may be related to the interaction between the gut microbiota and interleukin-17-producing CD4 T cells (Th17 cells).

However, exposure to large doses of X-rays poses considerable health risks. Therefore, it is crucial to reduce the radiation dosage without compromising detection efficiency.

Type I signal peptidase (SPase I) is crucial for bacterial survival and a promising target for antibiotics. Herein we designed and synthesized innovative tetrahydroacridine-9-carboxylic acid derivatives by optimizing the initial hit compound SP11 based on virtual screening.

However, the differences in methane oxidation activity and methanotrophic community between lakes and reservoirs remain inadequately characterized. In this study, sediment and water samples were collected from the large shallow lake (Dianchi) and deep reservoirs (Dongfeng and Hongjiadu) located in karst area, Southwest China.

Objectives: To evaluate the associations of dietary patterns with risks of various cancers and assess the strength and validity of the evidence.
Methods: Relevant articles were retrieved from the PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane library databases from inception to February 22, 2024.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs (18-26 nucleotides) that regulate gene expression by interacting with target mRNAs, affecting various physiological and pathological processes. miRTarBase, a database of experimentally validated miRNA-target interactions (MTIs), now features over 3 817 550 validated MTIs from 13 690 articles, significantly expanding its previous version. The updated database includes miRNA interactions with therapeutic agents, revealing roles in drug resistance and therapeutic strategies.

Understanding the mechanism of surface instability and how external stimuli interact with the surface is essential for developing strategies to mitigate the degradation of halide perovskites. Here, we directly observed structural evolutions on the surface of CsPbBr via an integrated differential phase contrast scanning transmission electron microscope.

Due to the heterogeneity of each cell subtype and between cells within the tumor, the sensitivity and resistance of different patients to targeted drugs, chemotherapy, , are inconsistent. Concerning a specific tumor type, many feasible treatments or combinations can be used by specifically targeting the tumor microenvironment.

Methods: Patients with maxillary edentulism were evaluated. Alveolar bone resorption was assessed using the Cawood and Howell classification.
Background: Historically, Asia had a lower prostate cancer (PCa) incidence and mortality compared with Western countries, but the gap is narrowing. Paradoxically, Asians have been reported to present with more advanced disease though more favorable outcomes. Despite PCa becoming an emerging health priority in East Asia, our knowledge remains limited.

However, the problem of pain occurrence following this localization procedure has not been sufficiently examined. In this prospective study, we aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors associated with acute pain after preoperative CT-guided hook-wire puncture localization of pulmonary nodules.

We investigated the therapeutic potential of targeting 12-lipoxygenase (12-LOX), an enzyme implicated in inflammatory pathways in β cells and macrophages, using a mouse model in which the endogenous mouse Alox15 gene is replaced by the human ALOX12 gene. Our finding demonstrated that VLX-1005, a potent 12-LOX inhibitor, effectively delayed the onset of autoimmune diabetes in human gene replacement non-obese diabetic mice.

Due to the inherent variability in EEG signals across different individuals, domain adaptation and adversarial learning strategies are being progressively utilized to develop subject-specific classification models by leveraging data from other subjects. These approaches primarily focus on domain alignment and tend to overlook the critical task-specific class boundaries. This oversight can result in weak correlation between the extracted features and categories.

Breast cancer (BC) remains one of the most prevalent and deadly malignancies among women globally. A deeper understanding of the molecular mechanisms driving BC progression and metastasis is essential for the development of effective therapeutic strategies. While traditional chemokine receptors are well known for their roles in immune cell migration and positioning, atypical chemokine receptors (ACKRs) have recently gained attention as key modulators in cancer-related processes.

Introduction: The study has investigated the lived experience of flautists, focusing on their experiences and perceptions of performance-related physical discomfort, injury and related mental health challenges that they might have encountered in practice and performance. The aims of the research have been to provide flautists with an opportunity to reflect on any physical or psychological performance issues in their own words, and to understand the subjective meaning of these experiences.
Methods: A basic qualitative approach was used for gathering data.
Background: Psychiatric nurses often encounter patients with mental health disorders and consequently experience prolonged periods of high stress, increased workload, and frequent incidents of workplace violence. These aspects can lead to a higher incidence of poor sleep quality. This study examined the interplay between workplace violence and emotional labour (surface and deep acting) to suggest measures for enhancing sleep quality among psychiatric nurses.
