Objective: To establish a morphologic classification system for characterizing blast cells in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and analyze the correlation of different APL morphologic characteristics with conventional tests and genetic variants.

Methods: Based on the morphological characteristics of APL blast cells, a classification system of 14 categories was established to characterize the inter- and intra-individual cellular morphological heterogeneity of patients. The classification system was used for the morphological analysis of 40 APL patients, and the classification results were statistically analyzed with the patients' conventional test indexes and gene variant characteristics to analyze the correlation of different APL blast cell morphological features with conventional test indexes and gene variants.

Phytochemical investigation on the rhizomes and roots of Gentiana scabra (Gentianaceae) led to the isolation of five new triterpenoids (1-5), together with seven known ones (6-12). The structures and absolute configurations of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic data interpretation, ECD calculation and X-ray crystallographic analysis. Noticeably, compound 4 was an uncommon 3,4-seco-pentacyclic triterpenoid in natural products.

Cocatalyst is of paramount significance to provide fruitful active sites for suppressing the spatial charge recombination toward boosted photocatalysis. Up to date, exploration of robust and stable cocatalysts is remained challenging. Inspired by the intrinsic merits of single-atom catalysts (SACs), such as distinctive electronic structure and high atomic utilization efficiency, single-atom/transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) is utilized as a model to synthesize CdS-Pd single-atom catalyst (CdS-PdSA) heterostructures.

Introduction: Intrahepatic primary osteosarcoma is a rare disease with a very low incidence but a very poor prognosis. A total of 12 cases have been previously reported, and in most of these cases, intra-focal calcification was observed. This paper aims to report a case of non-calcified intrahepatic primary osteosarcoma.

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (NCs) have been deemed a new generation of photosensitizers for light harvesting on account of their quantum confinement effect, peculiar atom-stacking mode, and enriched catalytic active sites. Nonetheless, to date, precise charge modulation over metal NCs has still been challenging considering their ultra-short carrier lifetime and poor stability. In this work, we conceptually demonstrate the integration of metal NCs with MXene in transition metal chalcogenide (TMC) photosystems a progressive, exquisite, and elegant interface design to trigger tunable, precise and high-efficiency charge motion over metal NCs, stimulating a directional carrier transport pathway.

Background: Distinguishing benign from malignant sub-centimeter solid pulmonary nodules (SSPNs) continues to be challenging in clinical practice. Earlier diagnosis is crucial for improving patient survival and prognosis. This study aimed to investigate the risk factors of malignant SSPNs and establish and validate a prediction model based on computed tomography (CT) characteristics to assist in their early diagnosis.

The tree shrew ( ) has long been proposed as a suitable alternative to non-human primates (NHPs) in biomedical and laboratory research due to its close evolutionary relationship with primates. In recent years, significant advances have facilitated tree shrew studies, including the determination of the tree shrew genome, genetic manipulation using spermatogonial stem cells, viral vector-mediated gene delivery, and mapping of the tree shrew brain atlas. However, the limited availability of tree shrews globally remains a substantial challenge in the field.

Narrow-linewidth lasers mainly depend on the development of advanced laser linewidth measurement methods for related technological progress as key devices in satellite laser communications, precision measurements, ultra-high-speed optical communications, and other fields. This manuscript provides a theoretical analysis of linewidth characterization methods based on the beat frequency power spectrum and laser phase noise calculations, and elaborates on existing research of measurement technologies. In addition, to address the technical challenges of complex measurement systems that commonly rely on long optical fibers and significant phase noise jitter in the existing research, a short-delay self-heterodyne method based on coherent envelope spectrum demodulation was discussed in depth to reduce the phase jitter caused by 1/ noise.

Background: No reliable clinical tools exist to predict acute kidney injury (AKI) progression. We aim to explore a scoring system for predicting the composite outcome of progression to severe AKI or death within seven days among early AKI patients after cardiac surgery.

Methods: In this study, we used two independent cohorts, and patients who experienced mild/moderate AKI within 48 h after cardiac surgery were enrolled.

The early symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases include oxidative stress disorder and accelerated inflammation levels. Edible fungi polysaccharides play essential roles in anti-neuroinflammation. We analyzed the regulatory mechanisms of polysaccharides from extracellular Armillariella tabescens (ATEP) in alleviating neuroinflammation in mice.

Mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) independent of nuclear gene is a set of double-stranded circular DNA that encodes 13 proteins, 2 ribosomal RNAs and 22 mitochondrial transfer RNAs, all of which play vital roles in functions as well as behaviors of mitochondria. Mutations in mtDNA result in various mitochondrial disorders without available cures. However, the manipulation of mtDNA via the mitochondria-targeted gene delivery faces formidable barriers, particularly owing to the mitochondrial double membrane.

Article Synopsis
  • A clinical trial was conducted to compare the effectiveness and safety of two treatments—cetuximab plus FOLFOXIRI (triplet therapy) and cetuximab plus FOLFOX (doublet therapy)—in RAS/BRAF wild-type colorectal cancer patients who had unresectable liver metastases.
  • The study enrolled 146 patients across seven medical centers in China between April 2018 and December 2022, assessing their objective response rate and other outcomes such as tumor response and survival.
  • Results showed that the response rates were similar between the two treatment groups (84.7% for triplet vs. 79.7% for doublet), indicating no significant difference in efficacy, and the trial also monitored

Herbivorous insects utilize intricate olfactory mechanisms to locate food plants. The chemical communication of insect-plant in primitive lineage offers insights into evolutionary milestones of divergent olfactory modalities. Here, we focus on a system endemic to the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau to unravel the chemical and molecular basis of food preference in ancestral Lepidoptera.

The design and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as photocatalytic molecular reactors for varied reactions have drawn great attention. In this work, we designed a novel photoactive perylenediimides-based (PDI) carboxylate ligand N,N'-di(3',3",5',5"-tetrakis(4-carboxyphenyl))-1,2,6,7-tetrachloroperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimide (Cl-PDI-TA) and use it to successfully synthesize a novel Zr(IV)-based MOF 1 constructed from [Zr O (H O) ] clusters bridged by Cl-PDI-TA ligands. Structural analysis revealed that Zr-MOF 1 manifests a 3D framework with (4,8)-connected csq topology and possesses triangular channels of ~17 Å and mesoporous hexagonal channels of ~26 Å along c-axis.
