Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on the genetic and clinical traits of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) that have metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) genes, with a specific look at their resistance to the antibiotic ceftazidime/avibactam (CZA).
  • In 2022, researchers analyzed 146 unique CRE isolates, finding that 35.6% were resistant to CZA, and 31.5% carried MBL genes, impacting their ability to be treated effectively.
  • The study noted high mortality rates linked to key factors such as admission to intensive care units, and revealed a diverse range of CRE strains without predominant clones, highlighting the urgent need for monitoring and treatment strategies

Objectives: Immature platelet fraction (IPF) for differentiating bacteremia has been explored, whereas its prognostic correlation remains uncertain. This study aims to confirm the predictive capability of IPF for bacteremia and investigate its association with prognosis.

Methods: Patients with complete blood count (CBC) on the blood culture day (D1) and the preceding day (D0) were retrospectively recruited and categorized into bacteremia and nonbacteremia groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Biologics for psoriasis, like TNF-α inhibitors and methotrexate, have benefits but raise concerns about lymphoma risks.
  • A patient on adalimumab developed angioimmunoblastic-type T-follicular helper cell lymphoma after receiving the mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine.
  • Factors such as medication, EBV reactivation, and previous lymphoid issues may have combined to create a lymphoma risk, with the vaccine potentially triggering the condition.

Background: The PLASMIC score was developed for distinguishing thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) from other types of thrombotic microangiopathy. However, two components of the PLASMIC score, mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and international normalized ratio (INR), showed non-significant differences between TTP and non-TTP patients in previous validations. Here, we validate the PLASMIC score and aim to modify it by adjusting the criteria of MCV and INR.
