Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-encoded X antigen, HBx, assists in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) through complex mechanisms. Capsanthin is a naturally occurring red pepper carotenoid with possible antitumor activity, but its antitumor mechanisms have yet to be delineated. We tested the anti-proliferative activity of capsanthin with human triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and found that cell proliferation was inhibited after 24, 48 and 72 h of treatment. We also investigated the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the antitumor efficacy of capsanthin on TNBC cells and found that capsanthin delayed cell-cycle progression at the G1/S stage, that cyclin A expression was suppressed, and that p21 expression was upregulated.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) has a higher potential for invasion and metastasis than other types of breast cancer. Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is the catalytic core protein in the polycomb repressive complex 2 (PRC2), which catalyzes the trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 27 (H3K27me3) and mediates gene silencing of the target genes that are involved in fundamental cellular processes, such as the cell fate decision, cell cycle regulation, senescence, cell differentiation, and cancer formation. The complete mitochondrial genome of the small-toothed forest hedgehog Mesechinus miodon (Eulipotyphla: Erinaceidae) has been reconstructed from Illumina sequencing data. A total of 1502 samples, including feces of sheep (793) and cattle (348), pasture soil (118), dung compost (147) and barn soil (96), were examined between October 2012 and August 2014 to discover potential strains of nematophagous fungi for the biological control of livestock-parasitic nematodes. An organ unique to mammals, the mammary gland develops 90% of its mass after birth and experiences the pregnancylactation-involution cycle (PL cycle) during reproduction. To understand mammogenesis at the transcriptomic level and using a ribo-minus RNA-seq protocol, we acquired greater than 50 million reads each for the mouse mammary gland during pregnancy (day 12 of pregnancy), lactation (day 14 of lactation), and involution (day 7 of involution). The pregnancy-, lactation- and involution-related sequencing reads were assembled into 17344, 10160, and 13739 protein-coding transcripts and 1803, 828, and 1288 non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), respectively.

The immune system plays a critical role determining the outcomes in transplanted multiple myeloma patients, since enhanced lymphocyte recovery results in improved survival. Since mobilization regimens influence the cellular subsets collected and infused for transplant, these regimens may determine immune recovery following transplant. We hypothesized that a mobilized stem cell product harboring an increased number of lymphocytes would enhance immune recovery following autologous stem cell infusion, increase lymphocyte recovery, and improve clinical outcomes.

The dual-level direct dynamics method has been employed to investigate the H-abstraction reaction of CF(3)CF(2)CH(2)OH with OH radical, which is predicted to have two classes of possible reaction channels caused by different positions of hydrogen atom attack. Theoretical investigations are carried out on the multichannel reaction CHBr(2)Cl + Cl by means of direct dynamics methods. The minimum energy path (MEP) is obtained at the BH&H-LYP/6-311G(d,p) level, and energetic information is further refined at the CCSD(T)/6-311+G(2df,2p) (single-point) level. The rate constants for three reaction channels, H-abstraction, Br-abstraction, and Cl-abstraction, are calculated by using the improved canonical variational transition state theory (ICVT) incorporating with the small-curvature tunneling (SCT) correction.
