Introduction: Retained products of conception (RPOC) refers to residual intrauterine tissue in female patients after a recent birth, pregnancy termination, or miscarriage. Ultrasound is the primary diagnostic modality for RPOC, but the accuracy of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has not been evaluated for this diagnosis. Our aim was to determine the test characteristics of POCUS in detecting RPOC, and to evaluate the management of RPOC in the Emergency Department.

The clinical use of potent androgen receptor (AR) inhibitors has promoted the emergence of novel subtypes of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), including neuroendocrine prostate cancer (CRPC-NE), which is highly aggressive and lethal . These mCRPC subtypes display increased lineage plasticity and often lack AR expression . Here we show that neuroendocrine differentiation and castration-resistance in CRPC-NE are maintained by the activity of Nuclear Receptor Binding SET Domain Protein 2 (NSD2) , which catalyzes histone H3 lysine 36 dimethylation (H3K36me2).

Plant metabolism is more complex relative to individual microbes. In single-celled microbes, transcriptional regulation by single transcription factors (TFs) is sufficient to shift primary metabolism. Corresponding genome-level transcriptional regulatory maps of metabolism reveal the underlying design principles responsible for these shifts as a model in which master regulators largely coordinate specific metabolic pathways.

Endobronchial aspergilloma (EBA) is a rare manifestation of pulmonary infection with Aspergillus spp. Comprised of hyphae, mucus, and cellular debris, the massive fungus overgrowth can lead to obstructive pneumonitis in large airways, manifesting as cough, dyspnea, hemoptysis, or weight loss. The aim of this paper is to review the literature on endobronchial aspergilloma to further elucidate this disease entity and to classify it as a non-invasive form of pulmonary aspergillosis.

Stem/progenitor cells play central roles in processes of organogenesis and tissue maintenance, whereas cancer stem cells (CSCs) are thought to drive tumor malignancy. Here, we review recent progress in the identification and analysis of normal prostate stem/progenitor cells as well as putative CSCs in both genetically engineered mouse models as well as in human tissue. We also discuss studies that have investigated the cell type of origin for prostate cancer.

Background And Aims: The cuticular waxes sealing plant surfaces against excessive water loss are complex mixtures of very-long-chain aliphatics, with compositions that vary widely between plant species. To help fill the gap in our knowledge about waxes of non-flowering plant taxa, and thus about the cuticle of ancestral land plants, this study provides comprehensive analyses of waxes on temperate fern species from five different families.

Methods: The wax mixtures on fronds of Pteridium aquilinum, Cryptogramma crispa, Polypodium glycyrrhiza, Polystichum munitum and Gymnocarpium dryopteris were analysed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for identification, and gas chromatography-flame ionization detection for quantification.

In this study, a multifunctional wearable sensing device based on two different graphene films is fabricated and can achieve the simultaneous detection of physiological signals and volatile organic compound (VOC) biomarkers without mutual signal interference. The wearable device was designed with two sensing components: on the upper layer of the device, four kinds of porphyrin-modified reduced graphene oxide (rGO) films were prepared and used for a sensor array that could sufficiently react with VOC vapors to achieve highly sensitive detection. A porous rGO film was designed on the underlayer of the device and used as a strain-sensing matrix, which could be closely attached to the skin to achieve a highly sensitive detection of the physiological signal.

Assessment of anti-drug antibodies (ADAs) for neutralizing activity is important for the clinical development of biopharmaceuticals. Two types of neutralizing antibody (NAb) assays (competitive ligand-binding assay [CLBA] and cell-based assay [CBA]) are commonly used to characterize neutralizing activities. To support the clinical development of benralizumab, a humanized, anti-interleukin-5 receptor α, anti-eosinophil monoclonal antibody, we developed and validated a CLBA and a CBA.
