Purpose: According to International Lymphology Society guidelines, the severity of lymphedema is determined by the difference in volume between the affected limb and the healthy side divided by the volume of the healthy side. However, this method of measuring volume is time-consuming, laborious, and has certain errors in clinical applications. Therefore, this study aims to explore whether machine learning radiomics features based on non-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (NCMRI) can predict the severity of primary lower limb lymphedema.

Sustainable poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) blends were compatibilized by the environmentally friendly epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) through the chemical reaction of epoxy functional groups on ESO with the terminated carboxyl and hydroxyl groups of PLA/PPC. The compatibilization effect of ESO was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, rheological property testing, differential scanning calorimetry, and morphological observations. It was revealed that the molecular chain entanglement between PLA and PPC was significantly enhanced and the dispersed PPC phase size was decreased, which endowed the blend with high viscosity modulus, low tan δ, and great stretchability, especially for the blend containing 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the structural basis of allosteric interactions in heterodimeric G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), specifically focusing on metabotropic glutamate (mGlu) receptors, which are crucial for synaptic regulation.
  • Researchers utilized cryo-electron microscopy to reveal four distinct structures of the mGlu2-4 heterodimer, showcasing different activation states, including inactive, intermediate, and active forms.
  • Findings indicate that agonist binding to just one subunit isn't enough for full activation of the dimer, highlighting the asymmetric nature of mGlu receptor activation, where only mGlu4 activates G proteins.

Introduction: While the role of apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 in Alzheimer's disease (AD) susceptibility has been studied extensively, much less is known about the differences in disease presentation in APOE ε4 carriers versus non-carriers.

Methods: To help elucidate these differences, we performed a broad analysis comparing the regional levels of six different neuroimaging biomarkers in the brains of APOE ε4 carriers versus non-carriers who participated in the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).

Results: We observed significant APOE ε4-associated heterogeneity in regional amyloid beta deposition, tau accumulation, glucose uptake, brain volume, cerebral blood flow, and white matter hyperintensities within each AD diagnostic group.

Federated Learning (FL) uses local data to perform distributed training on clients and combines resulting models on a public server to mitigate privacy exposure by avoiding data sharing. However, further research indicates that communication overheads continue to be the primary limitation for FL relative to alternative considerations. This is especially true when training models on non-independent and identically distributed data, such as financial default risk data, where FL's computational costs increase significantly.
