Background: Neuroglobin (Ngb) and growth-associated protein (GAP) 43 in neurons are associated with axonal regeneration. Korean Red Ginseng Extract (KRGE) enhances glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive astrocytes and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) protein activation in normoxic astrocytes. However, crosstalk between neural stem cell (NSC) differentiation and astrocytic HIF-1α in the KRGE-treated normoxic brain and retina remains unclear.

Intraoperative OLV may increase the intrapulmonary shunt, potentially leading to intraoperative hypoxemia. The Oxygen Reserve Index (ORI) is a continuous, noninvasive parameter that provides a broader range of oxygen reserve data than conventional oxygen saturation measurements.

Although a system based on the Ca/Ca couple is particularly attractive given the low electrochemical plating potential of Ca, the remaining challenge for a viable rechargeable Ca battery is to identify Ca cathodes with fast ion transport. In this work, a high-throughput computational pipeline is adapted to (1) discover novel Ca cathodes in a largely unexplored space of "empty intercalation hosts" and (2) develop material design rules for Ca-ion mobility.

This study identifies the interaction between age-associated zinc deficiency and Golgi stress as a critical factor in cellular aging. Senescent Golgi bodies from human fibroblasts show a fragmented Golgi structure, associated with a decreased interaction of the zinc-dependent Golgi-stacking protein complex Golgin45-GRASP55.

Objective: Using a large multi-institutional dataset, we assessed diagnostic and prognostic significance of age in CD through differences in presentation, laboratory results, tumor characteristics, and postoperative outcomes.
Design: Data from the Registry of Adenomas of the Pituitary and Related Disorders (RAPID) were reviewed for patients with CD treated with transsphenoidal tumor resection at 11 centers between 2003 and 2023.
The electrochemical nitrate reduction reaction (NORR) involves multiple hydrogenation and deoxygenation steps, which compete with the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Therefore, NORR driven in acidic media is challenging in spite of advantageous fast hydrogen transfers in its elementary steps. The findings presented in this article first demonstrate that the NORR is significantly activated even in acidic lithium nitrate solutions at LiNO concentrations exceeding 6 m on a Pt electrode (the highly effective catalyst for HER) by the formation of a "hydronium-in-salt" electrolyte (HISE), a new type of aqueous high concentration salt electrolyte.

Recently, PPIs have started to be exploited for drug discovery purposes and have thus attracted much attention from both the academic and pharmaceutical sectors. We previously developed a sensitive method, Split Intein-Mediated Protein Ligation (SIMPL), for detecting binary PPIs via irreversible splicing of the interacting proteins being investigated.

Genomic profiling often fails to predict therapeutic outcomes in cancer. This failure is, in part, due to a myriad of genetic alterations and the plasticity of cancer signaling networks. Functional profiling, which ascertains signaling dynamics, is an alternative method to anticipate drug responses.

This study aims to investigate how a hospital's safety-net burden, the proportion of a hospital's patients who are insured by state Medicaid plans or are uninsured, influences the outcomes of high-volume (HV) surgeons. We performed a retrospective cohort study of all patients who underwent surgery for thyroid cancer in California from 1999 to 2017.

Over the past decade, numerous single-crystalline perovskite derivatives have been synthesized and developed. However, the synthetic methods for these derivatives mainly rely on acidic crystallization conditions.

However, TXA administration could be associated with adverse effects, such as seizures and thromboembolic risks. While patients with fibrinolysis shutdown showed greater thromboembolic complications and mortality, TXA administration may aggravate the degree of shutdown in these patients.

We aimed to explore the association between MASLD and all-cause, cause-specific mortalities.
Methods: We included individuals with steatotic liver disease (SLD) from the Korean National Health Insurance Service.
Background: The prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) is increasing. While calcium and sodium are known nutritional factors used for managing MetS, few studies have focused on food-based analyses. This cross-sectional study examined the distribution of calcium- and sodium-rich food intake among Koreans with MetS.

The aim of this study was to develop a consensus-based recommendation for the treatment of patients with advanced-stage MZL. Twelve hematologist oncologists participated in a two-round Delphi process to identify consensus on the management of patients with advanced-stage MZL in South Korea.

This study aims to assess the efficacy of APC as a first line treatment for gastric dysplasia, and identify risk factors for residual dysplasia.
Methods: A total of 179 cases of gastric dysplasia were treated with APC and have been followed-up with upper endoscopy within 1 year.
Background: The intermediate filament protein vimentin is widely recognized as a molecular marker of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. Although vimentin expression is strongly associated with cancer metastatic potential, the exact role of vimentin in cancer metastasis and the underlying mechanism of its pro-metastatic functions remain unclear.
Results: This study revealed that vimentin can enhance integrin β1 surface expression and induce integrin-dependent clustering of cells, shielding them against anoikis cell death.
