Astragaloside promotes the secretion of MSC-derived exosomal miR-146a-5p by regulating TRAF6/NF-κB pathway to attenuate inflammation in high glucose-impaired endothelial cells.

This study aimed to explore the potential of using mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes (MSC-Exos) pre-treated with Astragaloside IV (ASIV) to alleviate inflammation in high glucose (HG)-damaged endothelial cells. MSC-Exos were isolated from untreated MSCs and ASIV-pre-treated MSCs, and their characteristics were assessed. The expression of miR-146a-5p in MSC-Exos was determined, and it was found that ASIV treatment enhanced its expression.

Coplanarity Constrained Ultrasound Probe Calibration Based on N-Wire Phantom.

Objective: N-wire phantom-based ultrasound probe calibration has been used widely in many freehand tracked ultrasound imaging systems. The calibration matrix is obtained by registering the coplanar point cloud in ultrasound space and non-coplanar point cloud in tracking sensor space based on the least squares method. This method is sensitive to outliers and loses the coplanar information of the fiducial points.

Protective effects of paeoniflorin on cardiovascular diseases: A pharmacological and mechanistic overview.

The morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are among the highest of all diseases, necessitating the search for effective drugs and the improvement of prognosis for CVD patients. Paeoniflorin (5beta-[(Benzoyloxy)methyl] tetrahydro-5-hydroxy-2-methyl-2,5-methano-1H-3,4-dioxacyclobuta [cd] pentalen-1alpha (2H)-yl-beta-D-glucopyranoside, CHO) is mostly derived from the plants of the family Paeoniaceae (a single genus family) and is known to possess multiple pharmacological properties in the treatment of CVDs, making it a promising agent for the protection of the cardiovascular system. This review evaluates the pharmacological effects and potential mechanisms of paeoniflorin in the treatment of CVDs, with the aim of advancing its further development and application.

Microwave Ablation for Refractory Giant Maxillofacial Arteriovenous Malformation: A Case Report.

Maxillofacial arteriovenous malformation located in the sensitive parts of the nose and lips has been an arduous challenge for doctors to meet a balance between resection and aesthetics in one time. In this report, one patient with a giant arteriovenous malformation covering the forehead, the nose, the lip, and bilateral cheeks and resulting in the appearance of the face like a lion's face, can not meet satisfactory outcomes by other therapeutic methods. We successfully reduced the size of vascular lesion using low-power and short-duration microwave ablation under real-time ultrasound guidance.

For the diagnosis and therapy of small cell lung cancer (SCLC), the accurate and sensitive determination of neuron-specific enolase (NSE) content is crucial. This work outlines a dual-quenching electrochemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) immunosensor based on the double quenching effects of iron base metal organic frameworks (FeMOFs) loaded with small sized CuO nanoparticles (FeMOFs-sCuO) towards CoPd nanoparticles (CoPdNPs) enhanced porous g-CN (P-CN-CoPdNPs). To be specific, we prepared a porous g-CN (P-CN) which has a rich porous structure, and significantly increased the specific surface area and the number of reaction sites of P-CN.

Increasing researches have considered gut microbiota as a new "metabolic organ," which mediates the occurrence and development of metabolic diseases. In addition, the liver is an important organ of lipid metabolism, and abnormal lipid metabolism can cause the elevation of blood lipids. Among them, elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is related with ectopic lipid deposition and metabolic diseases, and statins are widely used to lower LDL-C.

The crosstalk between NLRP3 inflammasome and gut microbiome in atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis (AS) is chronic pathological process based on the inflammatory reaction associated with factors including vascular endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, and autoimmunity. Inflammasomes are known to be at the core of the inflammatory response. As a pattern recognition receptor of innate immunity, the NLRP3 inflammasome mediates the secretion of inflammatory factors by activating the Caspase-1, which is important for maintaining the immune system and regulating the gut microbiome, and participates in the occurrence and development of AS.

Deciphering the Protein, Modular Connections and Precision Medicine for Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction and Hypertension Based on TMT Quantitative Proteomics and Molecular Docking.

Exploring the potential biological relationships between heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and concomitant diseases has been the focus of many studies for the establishment of personalized therapies. Hypertension (HTN) is the most common concomitant disease in HFpEF patients, but the functional connections between HFpEF and HTN are still not fully understood and effective treatment strategies are still lacking. In this study, tandem mass tag (TMT) quantitative proteomics was used to identify disease-related proteins and construct disease-related networks.

Background: Guizhi decoction (GZD), a classical Chinese herbal formula, has been widely used to treat hypertension, but its underlying mechanisms remain elusive. The present study aimed to explore the potential mechanisms and therapeutic effects of GZD on hypertension by integrating network pharmacology and experimental validation.

Methods: The active ingredients and corresponding targets were collected from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP).

Henoch-Schönlein Purpura With Scrotal Involvement: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Henoch-Schönlein purpura (HSP) is the most common vasculitis of childhood and affects the small blood vessels, leading to arthritis, abdominal pain, and renal involvement. However, scrotal involvement is a rare complication of HSP and scrotal pain. Swelling is the most frequent clinical presentation and can be easily confused with testicular torsion.

Xiao-Qing-Long Tang Prevents Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy, Fibrosis, and the Development of Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Faction in Rats by Modulating the Composition of the Gut Microbiota.

Background: Changes in the gut microbiota are associated with cardiovascular disease progression. Xiao-Qing-Long Tang (XQLT), a traditional herbal formula, has an anti-inflammatory effect and regulates the steady state of the immune system, which is also associated with the progression of heart failure with preserved ejection faction (HFpEF). In this study, we investigated whether XQLT could contribute to prevent the development of HFpEF and whether the modulation of the gut microbiota by this herbal formula could be involved in such effect.

[Clinical application of laparoscopy-assisted and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation for hepatocellular carcinoma].

Objective: To compared the efficacy of laparoscopy- assisted radiofrequency ablation (LRFA) and percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (PRFA) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Between September, 2013 and September, 2016, a total of 60 HCC patients with 78 tumor nodules underwent LRFA (30 cases with 46 tumor nodules) and PRFA (30 cases with 32 tumor nodules) in our hospital. The patients were followed up for 3 years to compare the complete ablation rate, serious complications, recurrence rate and long-term survival rate between the two groups.

Perioperative and long-term outcomes of liver resection for hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma without versus with hepatic inflow occlusion: study protocol for a prospective randomized controlled trial.

Background: The high prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) imposes a huge burden of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in Asia. Surgical resection remains an important therapeutic strategy for HCC. Hepatic inflow occlusion, known as the Pringle maneuver, is the most commonly used method of reducing blood loss during liver parenchymal transection.

Ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation of the segmental Glissonian pedicle: A new technique for anatomic liver resection.

Background: Anatomic liver resection is widely accepted as the optimal surgical treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, the complexity of conventional operative methods limits their use. To explore the possibility of using modern techniques to achieve a simpler approach, we have evaluated ultrasound-guided segmental radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the Glissonian pedicle before liver resection in a porcine model and in HCC patients.

Methods: This study had 2 stages.

Risk scoring system and predictor for clinically relevant pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Aim: To establish a scoring system to predict clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF) after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD).

Methods: The clinical records of 921 consecutive patients who underwent PD between 2008 and 2013 were reviewed retrospectively. Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) was defined and classified by the international study group of pancreatic fistula (ISGPF).

Optimized hydrolysis and analysis of Radix Asparagi polysaccharide monosaccharide composition by capillary zone electrophoresis.

Using orthogonal design, optimized conditions for the hydrolysis of the polysaccharide from Radix Asparagi were determined, as well as its monosaccharide composition. Optimized hydrolysis conditions were a temperature of 100°C in 1.5 M sulfuric acid solution for 5 h.

Heat-Irrigate Effect' of Radiofrequency Ablation on Relevant Regional Hepatocyte in Living Swine Liver-Initial Study on Pathology.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is one of the effective methods for HCC treatment. However, because of the "heat-sink effect" (HSE), it is very difficult to achieve a complete ablation in intrahepatic tumors. This study establishes the animal model of RFA on living swine liver and observes the 'heat-irrigate effect' on relevant regional hepatocytes.

Extraction optimization of the polysaccharide from Adenophorae Radix by central composite design.

The central composite design (CCD) was applied to optimize the water extraction of the polysaccharide from Adenophorae Radix in the paper. The three variables of extraction temperature (X1), extraction time (X2) and ratio of water to raw material (X3) were investigated by single factor analysis first. Since the presence of active polysaccharides and the imperfect of its extraction, the purpose of the paper was to evaluate the effects of selected variables on the yield of polysaccharide, which was expected to obtain the maximum yield.
