Aim: To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of fear of falling in glaucoma patients in western China.
Methods: In this cross-sectional study, glaucoma patients treated in the Ophthalmology Department of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were conducted to investigate the demographic data, visual acuity, visual field, activities of daily living, risk of falling, fear of falling and psychological states. Generalized linear model was used for multivariate analysis with fear of falling as dependent variable and other factors as independent variables.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma are the most common inflammatory diseases of the airways. The relationship between asthma and AR is widely and clinically recognised. The concept "one airway, one disease" has been gradually accepted.

Methods: Glaucoma mouse models were established by injecting polystyrene microbeads into the anterior chamber of C57BL/6J mice, then their retinas were obtained 14d and 28d after the intraocular pressure (IOP) was elevated. Retinal flat mounts and sections were double-labeled by fluorogold (FG) and β-III-Tubulin antibody or single-labeled by β-III-Tubulin antibody, then RGCs were counted and compared respectively.
Fc receptor-like 3 (FCRL3) has recently been associated with susceptibility to several immune-related diseases. In this study, we evaluated the potential association of FCRL3 polymorphisms with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) in a Chinese Han population. Five single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in FCRL3-rs945635, rs3761959, rs7522061, rs10489678, and rs7528684-were genotyped in 630 patients with SSNHL and 600 healthy controls by using a PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism assay.

Objective: To investigate the effects of dexamethasone (DEX) on the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in orbital fibroblasts (OF) from patients with thyroid associated ophthalmopathy (TAO).
Methods: OFs from 10 patients with TAO and from 5 normal control subjects were cultured in vitro. OFs were incubated with DEX, IFN-gamma or DEX and IFN-gamma compound for 72 hours.
Objective: To analyse the ultrastructure and cytokines expression from cultured orbital fibroblasts (OFs) in the patients with thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO).
Methods: Primary cultured OFs were obtained from 5 patients with TAO and 4 normal control subjects, some of subcultured OFs were treated by patients' serum with active TAO. Ultrastructures of OFs were observed by transmission election microscope.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of orbital decompression for the treatment of malignant exophthalmos.
Methods: Thirty four eyes of malignant exophthalmos were followed-up for 3 months to 9 years (averaged 6 years) after orbital decompression (two walls decompression in 22 eyes, three walls decompression in 12 eyes). The postoperative vision, protrusion value and appearance of the patients were examined and analyzed.
