For successful infection, the life-threatening pathogen Vibrio vulnificus elaborately regulates the expression of survival and virulence genes using various transcription factors (TFs). In this study, a library of the V. vulnificus mutants carrying specific signature tags in 285 TF genes was constructed and subjected to 16 phenotypic analyses.

We explored the role of placental growth factor (PlGF) in metabolic syndrome (MS) using mice models of type 2 diabetes, high-fat diet, or aging. Reduced serum PlGF levels were associated with decreased insulin sensitivity and development of MS features.

The alginate-based polymeric microspheres offer advantages such as biocompatibility, biodegradability, and improved stability, making them suitable for clinical applications. In this study, we developed novel positron emission tomography (PET) microspheres using alginate biopolymer radiolabeled with gallium-68 (Ga) through a straightforward conjugation reaction.

However, the presence of cervical lymph node (LN) metastasis, especially lateral LN metastasis, significantly impacts management and prognosis. Previous studies have focused on post-surgery risk factors for cervical LN metastasis.

However, the application of IONPs as T1 contrast agents has been restricted due to their high r2 values and r2/r1 ratios, which limit their effectiveness in T1 contrast enhancement. Notably, IONPs with diameters smaller than 5 nm, referred to as extremely small-sized IONPs (ESIONs), have demonstrated potential in overcoming these limitations.

Forty pregnant sows (three-way crossbreed: Landrace × Yorkshire × Duroc) at 85 days of gestation were included in the study and consisted of twenty primiparous and twenty multiparous sows (third parity). Sows were randomly assigned to the control and treatment groups.

This study focused on enhancing the toughness of direct-spun carbon nanotube yarns (CNTYs) by controlling the micro-textural structure using a water-gap-based direct spinning. Drawing inspiration from the structural features of natural spider silk fibroin, characterized by an α-helix in the amorphous region and β-sheet in the crystalline region, multiscale bundles within CNTYs are reorganized into a unique nano-coil-like structure.

Backgruound: Active surveillance (AS) has been introduced as a management strategy for low-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) due to its typically indolent nature. Despite this, the widespread adoption of AS has encountered several challenges. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the safety of AS related to disease progression and its benefits compared with immediate surgery (IS).

Butyrate is a major metabolite produced by microbiota that has neuroprotective effects by regulating mitochondrial function. However, detailed mechanisms underlying how butyrate can regulate neuronal mitophagy remain unclear.

Additionally, the authors assessed the feasibility of MSA-ICG in SLN mapping in rabbit uterine cancer models.
Materials And Methods: The authors compared the LN targeting ability of MSA-ICG with ICG.
Objectives: To investigate the association between the four components of the lipid profile (total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C)) at baseline and composite major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in statin-naïve rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with no previous history of cardiovascular events.
Methods: This nationwide population-based cohort study was performed on a total of 15,216 statin-naïve RA patients. The end point was a composite of clinical events, including myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, coronary revascularization, and cardiovascular death.
Age-related cognitive decline is associated with dysfunctional lymphatic drainage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) through meningeal lymphatic vessels. In this study, intrathecal [Cu]Cu-albumin positron emission tomography (PET) was applied in mice to evaluate lymphatic drainage of CSF and its variation with age. [Cu]Cu-albumin PET was performed at multiple time points after intrathecal injection of [Cu]Cu-albumin at an infusion rate of 700 nl/min in adult and aged mice (15-25 months old).

Glucocorticoid also contributes to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) by increasing ER-mitochondria connectivity, in which amyloid β (Aβ) processing occurs rigorously because of its lipid raft-rich characteristics. However, the mechanism by which glucocorticoid enhances γ-secretase activity in the mitochondrial-associated membrane of ER (MAM) and subsequent accumulation of mitochondrial Aβ is unclear.

The physiological crosstalk between glucocorticoid and melatonin maintains neuronal homeostasis in regulating circadian rhythms. However, the stress-inducing level of glucocorticoid triggers mitochondrial dysfunction including defective mitophagy by increasing the activity of glucocorticoid receptors (GRs), leading to neuronal cell death. Melatonin then suppresses glucocorticoid-induced stress-responsive neurodegeneration; however, the regulatory mechanism of melatonin, i.

Silk protein is being increasingly introduced as a prospective material for biomedical devices. However, a limited locus to intervene in nature-oriented silk protein makes it challenging to implement on-demand functions to silk. Here, we report how polymorphic transitions are related with molecular structures of artificially synthesized silk protein and design principles to construct a green-lithographic and high-performative protein resist.
