Background: We aimed to investigate the characteristics of pediatric ulcerative colitis (UC) at diagnosis in Korea.
Methods: This was a multicenter, registry-based, inception cohort study conducted in Korea between 2021 and 2023. Children and adolescents newly diagnosed with UC < 18 years were included.

Methods: Serum levels of 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25OHD) and clinical characteristics of newborn infants before (2019) and during SD (2021) were compared.
Results: A total of 526 neonates (263 in 2019 and 263 in 2021) were included.

Background: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) expressing eosinophilia experience slightly fewer episodes of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), than those without eosinophilia. However, the severity and burden of hospitalized pneumonia patients with COPD involving eosinophilia have not been assessed.
Methods: We evaluated the differences in clinical characteristics between patients with CAP and COPD with or without eosinophilia by a post hoc analysis of a prospective, multi-center, cohort study data.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the presence of autoantigens in the gastric juices of children.
Methods: Gastric juice and serum samples were obtained from 53 children <15 years of age who underwent gastric endoscopy. Among these, 8, 22, and 23 participants were in the age groups 0-5, 6-10, and 11-15 years, respectively.
This work aimed to identify the mechanisms by which taurine exerts its anti-obesity effects in the C57BL/6J ob/ob mice model and determine if taurine supplementation increases the amelioration of inflammation and lipogenesis linked genes in the adipose and liver tissues. Three groups of C57BL/6J mice were fed a standard chow diet for a period of 10 weeks the C57BL/6J normal group, the C57BL/6J ob/ob negative control group with no taurine intake and C57BL/6J ob/ob taurine group with taurine intake. Real time PCR was used to examine the gene expression profile in the experimental groups intrascapular brown adipose tissue (BAT), inguinal white adipose tissue (WAT) and liver.

We aimed to investigate factors associated with reaching mid-parental height (MPH) in patients diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease in childhood and the adolescent period.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective observational study included pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease that had reached adult height.
Background/aims: The overall incidence of pneumococcal pneumonia is declining. However, the change in the pathogenic distribution of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients and the serotype specificity of Streptococcus pneumoniae have not been evaluated in the post-era of pneumococcal vaccination in Korea.
Methods: We conducted a prospective, multi-center, cohort study from seven University-affiliated hospitals.
Plastics are the most abundant marine litter in the world's oceans and can be degraded into micro-plastics. These emerging pollutants negatively affect marine organisms, but little is known on the effects on macroalgae. In this study, we investigated the effects of micro-plastics on two species of red algae: Grateloupia turuturu and Chondrus sp.

This study aimed to compare REE predictions and objective measurements in patients with T2DM in Korea.
Subjects/methods: This study enrolled 36 participants with T2DM (age range, 20-60 years).
Purpose: The starting time for probiotic supplementation in preterm infants after birth varies widely. This study aimed to investigate the optimal time for initiating probiotics to reduce adverse outcomes in preterm or very low birth weight (VLBW) infants.
Methods: Medical records of preterm infants born at a gestational age (GA) of <32 weeks or VLBW infants in 2011-2020 were reviewed respectively.
Background: In clinical practice, the importance of interactive engagement behaviors is overlooked in children with developmental problems other than autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Parenting stress affects children's development but lacks attention from clinicians.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the characteristics of interactive engagement behaviors and parenting stress among non-ASD children with developmental delays (DDs).
The response of seaweeds to environmental stressors can be population-specific, and be related to the regime of their habitats. To explore the growth and physiological responses of Ulva prolifera, two strains of this alga (Korean and Chinese strains) were studied under an interaction of temperature (20 and 25 °C), nutrients (low nutrients: 50 μM of nitrate and 5 μM of phosphate; high nutrients: 500 μM of nitrate and 50 μM of phosphate) and salinity (20, 30 and 40 psu). The lowest growth rates of both strains were observed at 40 psu of salinity, independent of temperature and nutrient levels.

This study aimed to investigate the macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and associated clinical factors in neonates. Clinical information and blood samples were obtained from 77 neonates. Clinical details were reviewed from medical records, and MIF was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay using blood samples acquired within a week after birth.

Seaweed-derived biostimulants are primarily derived from brown algae and are known to improve terrestrial crop growth and tolerance to abiotic stresses.

The extensive white matter injury seen in this cohort raises concerns about the long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. In the present study, we prospectively assessed the neurodevelopmental outcomes of 13 patients with neonatal rotavirus-associated leukoencephalopathy at a median age of 26 months (range, 23-68 months).

During the last decades, the role of nutrition has been well elucidated in medicine, especially among critically ill infants and children. Many nutrients have the potential to modulate the immune system. A healthy immune system is essential for the prevention and recovery of many pediatric illnesses.

However, whether it is applicable to children, especially in newborns, has not been determined. This study aimed to investigate the RDW values of preterm infants and evaluate whether RDW values in the early days of life can predict bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) development.
