Aim: We evaluated the safety of baricitinib in an East Asian (EA) patient population with moderate-to-severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA), through an integrated sub-analysis of data from the overall baricitinib RA clinical program.

Methods: Data from EA patients who received any dose of baricitinib from five completed studies (1 Phase 2, 4 Phase 3) and an ongoing long-term extension study were pooled up to 1 September, 2016. Exposure-adjusted incidence rates (EAIR) and incidence rates (IRs), both per 100 patient-years (PY), were calculated.

Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using baricitinib, either alone or with methotrexate (MTX).
  • Patients receiving baricitinib showed significantly greater improvements in various PROs, including physical function and quality of life measures, compared to those on MTX alone.
  • Overall, initiating treatment with baricitinib, either as monotherapy or combined with MTX, resulted in notable benefits for patients with RA.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and effectiveness of tadalafil 5 mg once daily (quaque die [everyday], QD) among Korean men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)/lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in a real-world clinical setting.

Materials And Methods: This was a single-country, prospective, observational cohort study in which patients newly prescribed tadalafil 5 mg QD for the treatment of BPH/LUTS were followed-up for 12±2 or 24±2 weeks, or to the last treatment, during post-marketing surveillance. Safety was evaluated in terms of the frequency of treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) and serious adverse events (SAEs).

Purpose: This post hoc integrated analysis assessed the efficacy and safety of tadalafil 5 mg once daily in a large Korean population with lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH-LUTS).

Materials And Methods: Individual Korean participant data were integrated from three 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies in Asian men with BPH-LUTS, wherein 177 Korean men received placebo and 177 received tadalafil 5 mg once daily. The primary objective was to compare the change from baseline to week 12 in total International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) after treatment with tadalafil versus placebo.

Background/aims: The aims of this study were to evaluate the effect of antiviral therapy on serum total cholesterol (TC) levels and to investigate the factors related to serum TC changes in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients.

Methods: A total of 94 CHC patients, the majority of whom were infected with genotype 1 or 2 and were receiving antiviral therapy, were consecutively enrolled. TC levels before treatment, at week 4, at the end of treatment (EOT), and at 24 weeks after the EOT were analyzed, along with factors related to pre- and post-treatment TC levels.

Objectives: We studied the status of hepatic iron deposition and its relationship with blood iron indices, liver histology, and HFE gene mutations in Korean patients with chronic hepatitis C (CH-C).

Methods: 105 patients with CH-C who underwent pretreatment liver biopsy were consecutively enrolled. The hepatic iron deposition, histological activity and fibrosis were assessed by appropriate pathological scoring systems, clinical data including serum iron indices, and HFE gene mutation.
