The discovery of ferroelectric phases in HfO-based films has reignited interest in ferroelectrics and their application in resistive switching (RS) devices. This study investigates the pivotal role of electrodes in facilitating the Schottky-to-Ohmic transition (SOT) observed in devices consisting of ultrathin epitaxial ferroelectric HfYO (YHO) films deposited on LaSrMnO-buffered Nb-doped SrTiO (NbSTO|LSMO) with Ti|Au top electrodes. These findings indicate combined filamentary RS and ferroelectric switching occurs in devices with designed electrodes, having an ON/OFF ratio of over 100 during about 10 cycles.

: The development of a five-in-one vaccine microneedle patch (five-in-one MN patch) aims to address challenges in administering vaccines against Diphtheria (DT), Tetanus (TT), Pertussis (wP), Hepatitis B (HBsAg), and type b (Hib). Combining multiple vaccines into a single patch offers a novel solution to improve vaccine accessibility, stability, and delivery efficiency, particularly in resource-limited settings. : The five-in-one MN patch consists of four distinct microneedle arrays: DT and TT vaccines are coated together on one array, while wP, HepB, and Hib vaccines are coated separately on individual arrays.

In breast-conserving surgery (BCS), clear resection margins are crucial to prevent recurrence. Accurate imaging is vital for precise BCS, with MRI being the most accurate. However, MRI has limitations in identifying the exact extent of breast cancer in patients who have undergone neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT).

Metal batteries have captured significant attention for high-energy applications, owing to their superior theoretical energy densities. However, their practical viability is impeded by severe dendrite formation and poor cycling stability. To alleviate these issues, a 3D-structured bimetallic-MoTiCT based fiber electrode was fabricated in this study and analyzed experimentally and computationally.

Article Synopsis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease where hyper-activated B cells produce autoantibodies, causing symptoms.
  • Research found that naïve mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) inhibit T cell activity but not B cell IgM production, leading to a study on how to enhance MSC function.
  • Treatment with ingenol-3-angelate (I3A) primes MSCs to inhibit B cells through the secretion of TGF-β1, showing improved effectiveness in alleviating SLE symptoms in mice.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary liver cancer, the incidence of which is rising globally. Despite recent advancements in immunotherapeutic and surgical treatment modalities, the prognosis for HCC remains poor. The surgical treatment strategy for HCC comprises a multimodal effort that ranges from ablative therapy and surgical resection to liver transplantation.

Background: To assess the association between discrepancies between general obesity and abdominal obesity and the risk of subsequent cardiovascular disease (CVD), including stroke, in breast cancer survivors.

Methods: We undertook a retrospective cohort study using data from the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea. Among 72,174 5-year breast cancer survivors aged 40 years and above, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) were used to determine obesity status.

Several studies have revealed a possible association between antibiotic use and breast cancer in the Western population of women. However, its association with the Asian population remains unclear. Data utilized in this nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study was obtained from the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) database.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, being a prevalent abdominal surgical procedure, has transitioned through various innovative stages aimed at reducing the procedure's invasiveness. These stages encompass Single-Incision Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (SILC), Mini Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (MLC), Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (NOTES), and Robotic-Assisted Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (RALC). The purpose of this review is to trace the evolution of minimally invasive cholecystectomy techniques, assess their status, and identify emerging trends and challenges in the field.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study compared neurophysiological characteristics of internet gaming disorder (IGD), alcohol use disorder (AUD), and healthy controls (HCs) using resting-state EEG to understand addiction better.
  • - Involving 199 young adults, the research found that AUD patients had lower microstate features compared to those with IGD, indicating different brain activity patterns associated with each disorder.
  • - The results suggested that specific EEG microstate characteristics could serve as neuromarkers to distinguish between addictive disorders and assess their underlying mechanisms.

  • The study assessed the effectiveness of two instruments (Keratograph 5M and LipiView II) in measuring meibomian gland health to detect dry eye disease, based on TFOS DEWS II criteria.
  • A total of 227 participants were examined for dry eye symptoms and given various tests to evaluate meibomian gland dropout and meiboscale grading.
  • Results showed that percentage gland dropout had better diagnostic performance than qualitative grading, with a suggested cut-off of >20% gland dropout indicating dry eye disease, and the two instruments had similar but not interchangeable results.

Purpose: Despite the decades of using radiation therapy (RT) for Graves' ophthalmopathy, the effects and optimal timing remain unclear. We retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the overall efficacy and response, predictive factors, and the effective timing of RT by assessing steroid requirement after RT in patients without prior surgery.

Methods And Materials: Between 2008 and 2022, we analyzed 74 patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy who received RT to both orbits.

Background:  There is uncertainty regarding the impact of high-intensity statins on postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing surgical myocardial revascularization. This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of high-intensity statin treatment on the occurrence rate of new-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCAB).

Methods:  Six hundred and thirteen patients (66.

Mechanoluminescence (ML) and digital image correlation (DIC) have emerged as promising optical methods to visualize and measure deformation fields. In this study, a dual-modal sensing skin, called the ML-DIC skin is introduced, that is capable of emitting ML and facilitating DIC measurements under various lighting conditions, including daylight, night or darkness, and UV irradiation. Four ML-DIC skins are fabricated with or without carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using a composite powder consisting of SrAl2O4: Eu,Dy (SAO), and acrylic resin, with CNT milling times of 48, 72, and 96 h for three of four skins, respectively.

Purpose: Several studies have evaluated the impact of sarcopenic obesity (SO) on postoperative complications, including postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF), in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). Previous studies have shown that SO increases POPF, but it remains unclear whether SO increases postoperative complications. In this study, we aimed to determine the relationship between SO and immediate postoperative complications.

  • A study analyzed the benefits of performing multiple bypass grafts in patients with three-vessel disease (3VD) who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
  • The research included 1,008 patients who achieved complete revascularization and was focused on long-term outcomes over an average follow-up of about 86.6 months.
  • Findings indicated that patients with more than three distal grafts experienced lower rates of all-cause mortality and cardiac death compared to those with fewer grafts, suggesting potential benefits from more extensive grafting during surgery.
