Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness and tolerability of combining irbesartan (IRB) and amlodipine (AML) in treating essential hypertension when IRB alone was insufficient.
  • Two phase III clinical trials in Korea involved 428 patients and compared combinations of IRB/AML to placebo over 8 weeks, focusing on changes in mean sitting systolic blood pressure (MSSBP).
  • Results showed significant reductions in MSSBP in the combination groups compared to monotherapy, with adverse events occurring in a small percentage of participants, indicating the combined therapy was both effective and tolerable.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of ketoprofen plasters and diclofenac plasters after 3 weeks of administration in patients with osteoarthritis-related knee pain.

Methods: This multicenter, randomized, active-controlled, open-label, parallel-group, noninferiority phase III study randomized 236 adults with osteoarthritis-related knee pain for 3 weeks with ketoprofen plaster 30 mg twice daily (n = 118) or diclofenac plaster 15 mg once daily (n = 118). The primary efficacy end point was the mean change from baseline to week 3 in the mean knee pain intensity score during walking, as measured by a 100-mm visual analog scale with a predefined noninferiority margin of 10.

Background: To evaluate the effects of teneligliptin on glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-derived time in range, and glycemic variability in elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.

Methods: This randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study was conducted in eight centers in Korea (clinical trial registration number: NCT03508323). Sixty-five participants aged ≥65 years, who were treatment-naïve or had been treated with stable doses of metformin, were randomized at a 1:1 ratio to receive 20 mg of teneligliptin (n=35) or placebo (n=30) for 12 weeks.

Aims: We performed a first-in-human study with HL2351, a novel hybrid Fc-fused interleukin (IL)-1 receptor antagonist, to evaluate its tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PD) after a single subcutaneous (SC) administration in healthy subjects.

Methods: A randomized, double-blind, placebo- and active-controlled, dose-escalation study was conducted. Eligible subjects randomly received a single SC administration of HL2351 (1, 2, 4, 8 and 12 mg/kg) or placebo in a ratio of 8:2.

To investigate the effect of continuous multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on the thermal and mechanical properties of composites, we propose a fabrication method for a buckypaper-filled flexible composite film prepared by a two-step process involving buckypaper fabrication using vacuum filtration of MWCNTs, and composite film fabrication using the dipping method. The thermal conductivity and tensile strength of the composite film filled with the buckypaper exhibited improved results, respectively 76% and 275% greater than those of the individual MWCNT-filled composite film. It was confirmed that forming continuous MWCNT fillers is an important factor which determines the physical characteristics of the composite film.

We have previously identified critical residues important for sweetness of the sweet protein brazzein by site-directed mutagenesis (Yoon, Kong, Jo, & Kong, 2011). In order to elucidate the interaction mechanisms of brazzein with the sweet taste receptor, we made multiple mutations of three residues (His31 in loop 30-33, Glu36 in β-strand III, and Glu41 in loop 40-43). We found that all double mutations (H31R/E36D, H31R/E41A and E36D/E41A) made the molecules sweeter than des-pE1M-brazzein and three single mutants.
