Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy using conventional instruments in situs inversus totalis.

Situs inversus totalis is a rare genetic disorder. Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy (SILC) in situs inversus totalis has been reported rarely. SILC has an advantage of being easier than conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy in addition to better cosmesis and reduced postoperative pain.

Transverse testicular ectopia with persistent mullerian duct syndrome.

Persistent mullerian duct syndrome (PMDS) is a rare form of male pseudohermaphroditism caused by defects in synthesis or actions of mullerian inhibiting factor characterised by persistence of mullerian duct structures in a normal karyotype male. Transverse testicular ectopia (TTE) is a rare disease in which both testes are located in the same inguinal canal. We report a case of PMDS with TTE in a 1-year-old child who presented with non-palpable testis on right side with hernia on left side.

Giant vesical calculus presenting with azotaemia and anuria.

Giant vesical calculus is a rare clinical entity in modern urological practice. Vesical calculi are usually secondary to bladder outlet obstruction. The usual clinical presentation is with recurrent urinary tract infection, haematuria or with retention of urine.

Bowel injury following induced abortion.

Objective: Bowel injury is an uncommonly reported yet serious complication of induced abortion, which is often performed illegally by persons without any medical training in developing countries. A sudden increase in cases prompted the authors to analyze this problem.

Method: A retrospective review was done of 11 cases of bowel injury following induced abortion seen over 2 years at Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, India.

Spectrum of perforation peritonitis in India--review of 504 consecutive cases.

Background/objective: Perforation peritonitis is the most common surgical emergency in India. The spectrum of etiology of perforation in Tropical countries continues to be different from its Western counterpart. The objective of the study was to highlight the spectrum of perforation peritonitis as encountered by us at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh.

Adenocarcinoma in horseshoe kidney.

An adenocarcinoma arising in a horseshoe kidney (HK) is rare. The case of a forty five-year-old male patient, presenting with a recurrent, painless hematuria, is reported. On investigation the patient was found to have a horseshoe kidney, with an adenocarcinoma in the left hemi-kidney, which was treated surgically, with a hemi-nephrectomy, of the involved part, being performed to excise the tumor.
