[Clinical problems of staphylococcal septicemia].

Clinical Problems in staphylococcal septicaemia are reported in the observed 13 cases with severe multiorgan complications. In 69.2% of patients the course of the disease was very serious or severe, in the remaining cases it was moderately severe.

[Suppurative meningitis in 210 cases].

Clinical course, etiology and the results of treatment of the suppurative meningitis in 219 adult patients are discussed. Clinical course was extremely severe in 63.3% of the patients, moderately severe in 33.

Liver histology in chronic metribuzin poisoning of the guinea-pig.

Forty male guinea-pigs weighing 400-600 g, 8 months old, were given metribuzin directly into the gastric lumen over a period of 30 days (20 animals) or 90 days (20 animals), 6 times a week. The intoxicated animals showed congestion and obliteration of the trabecular structure of the liver. Acidophilic and vacuolar degeneration of the liver cells with signs of necrosis were also observed.

Carbohydrate, protein and glycoprotein metabolism by the guinea-pig liver in chronic metribuzin poisoning.

Male guinea-pigs weighing 400-600 g, 8 months old, were given metribuzin directly into the gastric lumen over a period of 30 days (20 animals) or 90 days (20 animals) 6 times a week. In the liver of the poisoned animals, the glycogen level and the AspAT and AlAT activities, while in the serum the total protein and the fractions albumin, alpha 1-globulin and gamma-globulin significantly decreased; serum glucose and the serum fractions alpha 2-globulin and beta-globulin, each showed an increase. The glycogen level in the liver, total protein, glucose as well as the alpha 1 and alpha 2 globulin fractions in the serum showed not appreciable difference between 30 and 90 days of intoxication.

[Epidemiologic and clinical studies of patients with tick-borne encephalitis from northeastern Poland].

The authors discussed the epidemiological and serological evaluation as well as the clinical symptomatology of thick-borne encephalitis in 215 patients from North-East Poland. They found, among other things, that in 94 per cent of cases the infection was percutaneous from the tick bite and caused via the digestive route in 6 per cent of cases by drinking unboiled cow milk. [Chronic toxoplasmosis in pregnant women--an epidemiological and social problem].

Frequency of pregnancy miscarriage was analized in 52 women with chronic toxoplasmosis treated clinically. The pregnancy miscarriage was found in 78.4% of cases including abortion-48.

Behaviour of aminohexoses and sialic acids in subacute intoxication of guinea pigs with "Elocron 50 WP".

The behaviour of sialic acids and aminohexoses was examined in subacute intoxication of 60 guinea pigs with "Elocron 50 WP". Elocron 50 WP was administered in soy-bean oil emulsion by means of a stomach tube for 28 and 85 days. The daily dose was 1/3 LD50.

[Encephalomyelitis of atypical course probably caused by Echovirus 7].

The authors report a cases of encephalomyelytis caused probably by ECHO7 virus which was isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid after 45 days of disease. During 120 days 4 relapses of the disease were observed associated with severe general and neurological signs and cerebral coma which ultimately was the cause of death.
