Background: Surgical reconstruction is a crucial stage in various surgeries, including pancreaticoduodenectomy, as it can significantly affect the surgical results. The objective was to design a suture force feedback (SFF) device that can precisely measure the suture force during surgical closures. Afterward, the device was used to train junior surgeons in surgical closure techniques.

Most Indian studies on CRC are retrospective and single-centered. The present study is an attempt to understand the current clinical profile and stage of newly diagnosed CRCs across multiple centers in Tamil Nadu, India.

Purpose: To understand the actual impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and frame the future strategies, we conducted a pan India survey to study the impact on the surgical management of gastrointestinal cancers.
Methods: A national multicentre survey in the form of a questionnaire from 16 tertiary care gastrointestinal oncology centres across India was conducted from January 2019 to June 2021 that was divided into a 15-month pre-Covid era and a similar period of active Covid pandemic era.
Results: There was significant disruption of services; 13 (81%) centres worked as dedicated Covid care centres and 43% reported suspension of essential care for more than 6 months.
Background: Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), regardless of the tissue sources, are considered as excellent candidates for cellular therapy as they are immune-privileged cells containing a multitude of therapeutic functions that aid in tissue regeneration and repair. For the effective application of these cells in cell therapy, it is important to understand and characterize their biological functions.
Objectives: The present study attempts to characterize the variations in multipotent function such as cell surface antigen levels, proliferation, differentiation and stemness (pluripotency) potential of MSCs isolated from foetal [wharton's jelly (WJ), foetal and maternal side of placenta (PF and PM)] and adult tissue sources [bone marrow (BM) and adipose tissue (AT)] using gene expression by real time PCR (qRT-PCR).
Background: Pancreatic cystic neoplasms remain uncommon. Although data are accumulating on the incidence of pancreatic cystic neoplasms in the published literature, Indian data on these tumors are sparse.
Material And Methods: We collated data from prospectively maintained databases of patients operated for cystic tumors of the pancreas from 2007 to 2016 at 7 academic centers across India to gain insights into clinical presentation and outcome of the operative treatment of these tumors.
Ciliated hepatic foregut cysts (CHFCs) are rare congenital cysts of the liver that originate from the embryologic foregut. Despite an increase in incidence, they remain rare and several key characteristics remain poorly understood, including the range of presentation and the risk of malignant conversion. Large, symptomatic cysts and small asymptomatic, atypical cysts should be resected.

Though MSC's have been isolated from different sources, researchers do not concur on the best source for expansion and clinical translation. In this study, we have compared the isolation, proliferation and expansion of MSCs from umbilical cord blood (UCB), Wharton's Jelly (WJ), bone marrow (BM) and adipose tissue (AT).

Post-operative bleeding complications are the most worrisome of all, which need vigilance by the operating team. Early recognition and prompt management using endoscopy, intervention radiology or urgent surgery, with a low threshold for relaparotomy is needed to avoid mortality.

Patients with portal vein thrombus (PVT) due to tumor are considered to have advanced disease and are only offered palliative therapy. Therefore, every possible attempt should be made to accurately differentiate benign from malignant PVT.

Aim: To perform a case matched comparison of patients with necrotizing pancreatitis who underwent necrosectomy by the retroperitoneal approach with transperitoneal approach, thus minimizing the risk of confounding and selection bias.
Objective And Background Data: Reduction in cellular elements of blood, secondary to hypersplenism is an established component of non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. Prior transfusion of blood or blood components is frequently required for safe surgical intervention. Due to thrombocytopenia, epidural catheter insertion for effective and durable analgesia is not possible.

Introduction: Spillage of calculi in the abdomen is frequent during Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC). Though uncommon, these stones may lead to early or late complications. We describe a rare case of spilled gallstone presenting four years after the index procedure, with a mass in the parietal wall mimicking a neoplastic lesion.

Background: Although bile infection has been proposed to increase infective complications following pancreaticoduodenectomy, its association with infective complications and non-infective complications like pancreatic fistula is still controversial.
Methods: Seventy-six patients who had undergone pancreaticoduodenectomy between July 2007 and December 2008 were included in a prospective database and their data analyzed. In all patients intraoperative bile from the bile duct was cultured.
Background/aim: The management of esophageal perforations remains controversial in large part due to variability in etiology, time of presentation, location, and underlying esophageal disease. We reviewed our experience in treating patients with esophageal perforations and evaluated the etiology, management and outcome of intervention in a tertiary center.
Methods: Between 1999 and 2007, 48 patients with esophageal perforation were treated in a tertiary referral center in southern India.
Background: Debilitating abdominal pain remains the most common presentation of chronic pancreatitis and the treatment remains challenging.
Objective: This prospective study analyzed the outcome of Frey's procedure in patients with inflammatory head mass.
Methods: For the period between 2002 and 2007, 77 patients with chronic pancreatitis underwent Frey procedure for intractable abdominal pain.
Unlabelled: OBJECTIVE & BACKGROUND DATA: Mortality following pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) has fallen below 5%, yet morbidity remains between 30 and 50%. Major haemorrhage following PD makes a significant contribution to this ongoing morbidity and mortality. The aim of the present study was to validate the new International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS) Clinical grading system in predicting the outcome of post pancreaticoduodenectomy haemorrhage (PPH).

Background: The incidence of hepaticojejunostomy stricture is 4%-10% in experienced centres. Many access loops have been designed and used to facilitate endoscopic intervention for this complication of hepaticojejunostomy. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness and safety of gastric access loop.

If an esophageal opening cannot be found orally through endoscopy, a retrograde approach with a mini-laparotomy and gastrostomy should be attempted. This study primarily aimed at defining the role of preoperative retrograde dilatation of pharyngo-esophageal corrosive strictures.
