Background: Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumor (EMCMT) is a rare neoplasm that mainly affects the tongue and harbors recurrent, although not exclusive, gene fusions. Owing to its rarity, overlapping features with other tumors may lead to challenges in the microscopic diagnosis. We aimed to perform a systematic review focusing on the histomolecular findings of EMCMT of the oral and maxillofacial region and to evaluate the possible association between microscopic features with the genetic background.

Brazil is home to the highest absolute number of human T-cell lymphotropic virus type-1 (HTLV-1)-infected individuals worldwide; the city of Salvador, Bahia, has the highest prevalence of HTLV-1 infection in Brazil. Due to the complex nature of several diseases associated with this retrovirus, a multidisciplinary health care approach is necessary to care for people living with HTLV-1. The Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health's Integrative Multidisciplinary HTLV Center (CHTLV) has been providing support to people living with HTLV and their families since 2002, striving to ensure physical and mental well-being by addressing biopsychosocial aspects, providing clinical care and follow-up, including to pregnant/postpartum women, as well as comprehensive laboratory diagnostics, psychological therapy, and counseling to family members.

In this study, we analyzed biomarkers and heavy metals in Ucides cordatus specimens caught in mangrove areas [A1 = reference (low impact area); A2, A3 and A4 = port complex (potentially impacted area)] of the Amazonian northern coast of Brazil. Sediments and crab muscles sampled from the potentially impacted mangroves showed high levels of metals. Additionally, catalase and glutathione S-transferase enzymes in the gills and hepatopancreas of the collected crabs were elevated in crabs from A2, A3 and A4 relative to those from A1.

We propose a new methodology to study, at the density functional theory (DFT) level, the clusters resulting from the microsolvation of alkali-metal ions with rare-gas atoms. The workflow begins with a global optimization search to generate a pool of low-energy minimum structures for different cluster sizes. The current study combined chemical data on trace elements and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) from sediment and used a multibiomarker approach in the catfish Sciades herzbergii to evaluate two different sites in São Marcos Bay, Brazil. Higher diffuse contaminations by trace elements and PAH were detected in the sediment of Porto Grande (PG) harbor than in the Ilha dos Caranguejos (IC) reference area. A multibiomarker was used in catfish to evaluate the bioavailability of PAH in bile and the effects of pollutants in target tissues.

The microsolvation of Li by both argon and krypton atoms has been studied based on a new potential energy surface that includes two- and three-body interactions; the potential terms involving the lithium ion were calibrated with CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVQZ energies after being corrected for the basis-set superposition error. The structures of the LiAr Kr ([Formula: see text]) clusters arising from global optimization show a first solvation shell preferentially occupied by krypton atoms. These binary-solvent microsolvation clusters are most stable when the total number of krypton (argon) atoms occupy the first (second) solvation shell.

This article examines the regionalization process in the Brazilian Health System, identifying frameworks and challenges of this process from critical dialogue on the subject, contextualized by the experience of the management system and in the light of an established theoretical debate in the last decade. Between the months of July and September of 2007 during the so-called Brazilian dry season, an aerosol profiling campaign was carried out with a backscatter(ing) lidar system in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The main goal of this campaign was to observe the aerosol load in the troposphere (up to 10 km) and its daily behavior to check for air dispersion conditions, planetary boundary, and mixed layer height daily evolution. Lidar analysis provided aerosol optical properties in the visible range (532 nm) and quantities such as aerosol backscatter(ing) and extinction coefficients in conjunction with the aerosol optical thickness provided by a collocated AERONET Sunphotometer.

Background: Citrus sudden death (CSD), a disease that rapidly kills orange trees, is an emerging threat to the Brazilian citrus industry. Although the causal agent of CSD has not been definitively determined, based on the disease's distribution and symptomatology it is suspected that the agent may be a new strain of Citrus tristeza virus (CTV). Citrus Sudden Death (CSD), a new, graft-transmissible disease of sweet orange and mandarin trees grafted on Rangpur lime rootstock, was first seen in 1999 in Brazil, where it is present in the southern Triângulo Mineiro and northwestern São Paulo State. The disease is a serious threat to the citrus industry, as 85% of 200 million sweet orange trees in the State of São Paulo are grafted on Rangpur lime. After showing general decline symptoms, affected trees suddenly collapse and die, in a manner similar to trees grafted on sour orange rootstock when affected by tristeza decline caused by infection with Citrus tristeza virus (CTV).
