Prognostic impact of log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) in the stratification of patients with rectal cancer.

Introduction: The use of the N category of the TNM staging system, lymph node ratio (LNR) and log odds of positive lymph nodes (LODDS) in predicting overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with rectal cancer is still controversial.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study of 445 patients with rectal cancer who underwent surgery between 2008 and 2017 in the University Complex Hospital of Vigo was performed. Patients were stratified according to number of lymph nodes examined (NLNE), N staging, LNR and LODDS.

Background: Recent genome-wide studies identified a risk locus for colorectal cancer at 18q21, which maps to the SMAD7 gene. Our objective was to confirm the association between SMAD7 SNPs and colorectal cancer risk in the multi-center Colon Cancer Family Registry.

Materials And Methods: 23 tagging SNPs in the SMAD7 gene were genotyped among 1,592 population-based and 253 clinic-based families.

[Laparoscopic adrenalectomy: presentation of 43 cases].

Introduction: The aim of the study was to present and analyse our experience in laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA).

Materials And Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study including LA performed over 8 years, between 2000 and 2008 in our hospital.

Results: A total of 43 LA were performed to 41 patients using a transperitoneal lateral approach.

However, it has not become routine, because the exact timing and approach to the surgical management remains ill defined.
