The American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association introduced the Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular EVENTs (PREVENT™) algorithm to estimate the 10-year risk of developing cardiovascular disease. We aimed to assess the cardiovascular risk (CVR) reclassification among rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients using traditional CVR algorithms-the 2024 PREVENT™ and the 2013 Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD)-and the presence of carotid plaque (CP). This was a cross-sectional study nested of a RA patients' cohort.

Sexual dysfunction (SD) has been associated with worse quality of life and higher disease activity in patients with rheumatic diseases, yet it is still not regularly addressed during routine rheumatologic evaluations. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and evaluate their perception of their sexual health. We performed a retrospective study in an outpatient rheumatology clinic to evaluate patients over 18 years old with a diagnosis of RA or SLE through the Spanish version of the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX) and the Sexual Health Perception Survey (SHEPS), a questionnaire of 6 items designed in our clinic.

Objective: Stress and trauma are psychosocial factors with an impact on the course of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The influence of violence on SLE has not been entirely explored, even though women (including patients with rheumatic diseases) are a vulnerable population to any form of violence. This study aims to assess the prevalence and impact of intimate partner violence (IPV) on health-related quality of life in women with SLE.

Women with autoimmune rheumatic disease (ARDs) experience difficulties with BF in addition to those concerning their own disease. The aim of this study is to identify the impact factors as infant feeding attitude, the level of BF knowledge, BF self-efficacy, and the sociodemographic have in the intention to BF in women with ARDs. We performed an observational, retrospective, and analytical study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the quality of care for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) using 18 validated quality indicators (QIs) based on EULAR guidelines and to examine its relationship with patient care satisfaction.
  • It analyzed 70 patients aged 18 and older, finding an overall QI adherence of 62.29% and a care satisfaction score of 100, but no significant correlation between the two (r = 0.064, p = 0.599).
  • Patients in remission showed better compliance with QIs compared to those with moderate to high disease activity, indicating that disease status may impact quality of care adherence.

Background: Systemic inflammation, documented before rheumatoid arthritis (RA) diagnosis, is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis. We aimed to compare the prevalence of carotid plaque (CP) in RA patients in the first five years since diagnosis and healthy controls, and to determine disease characteristics associated with the presence of subclinical atherosclerosis in RA patients.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study.

Introduction/objectives: Active autoimmune rheumatic diseases (ARDs) before conception increase the risk of flares and adverse pregnancy outcomes. We aimed to construct and validate a reproductive behavior questionnaire in Spanish for patients with ARDs to assess their knowledge and their reproductive behavior.

Method: We constructed and validated a reproductive behavior questionnaire in two phases: (1) a literature review followed by interviews of reproductive-age female patients, and (2) a cross-sectional study to complete validation.

Article Synopsis
  • - The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted patients with rheumatic autoimmune diseases, leading to increased mental health issues (43.2-57.7%), decreased physical activity (56.8%), and changes in eating habits, including a rise in alcohol consumption (18.2%).
  • - Cardiovascular comorbidities in these patients, particularly those with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus, worsened during the pandemic, impacting their overall health management.
  • - Healthy lifestyle adjustments, such as improved eating, staying active, and effective disease management, are vital to mitigating the long-term effects of COVID-19 on these patients.

Lupus erythematosus tumidus (LET) is a rare photosensitive der-matosis that was considered a subtype of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus (CLE); however, its clinical course and favorable prognosis led to its reclassification into another category called intermittent CLE. Although known for more than 100 years, LET's association with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), autoantibody profile, and disease prognosis is not well characterized. The purpose of this study was to describe the demographics, clinical characteristics, autoantibody profile, comorbidities, and treatment of LET.

Purpose: Osteoporosis in pregnancy is an uncommon disease and there is little information regarding its pathogenesis and its effects on the skeleton. This review aims to describe changes in mineral metabolism during pregnancy and lactation as well as their clinical impact.

Methods: We performed a narrative review of the literature using the PubMed and Google Scholar databases for articles published from 1955 to 2021.

Sexual issues have a high prevalence in people with rheumatic diseases, but they are not commonly discussed in clinical practice, so we aim to determine the relevance and frequency of addressing problems related to sexuality in Rheumatology clinical practice in Mexico. We obtained data from an electronic survey applied to Mexican physicians involved in Rheumatology practice. The questionnaire was adapted from a previous study.

Introduction/objectives: First-degree relatives (FDR) of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risk of RA diagnosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been proposed as a useful tool to detect subclinical synovitis and bone abnormalities as predictors of progression to RA. The presence of grade ≥ 2 bone erosions in RA MRI scoring system (RAMRIS) was reported to be RA-specific.
