Outcomes of the Montana Asthma Home Visiting Program: A home-based asthma education program.

Objective: Asthma is a common disease in children. Home-based, multi-trigger, multi-component interventions with an environmental focus have been shown to be effective to address asthma in children. The objective of this study was to assess the outcomes and feasibility of implementing a specific asthma home visiting (HV) program in a rural area.

High mortality rate of unintentional poisoning due to prescription opioids in adults enrolled in Medicaid compared to those not enrolled in Medicaid in Montana.

Background: Unintentional death due to prescription drug-related poisoning has been a growing problem nationally. Some sub-populations have been shown to be at higher risk than others.

Methods: In 2014, we matched death records to Medicaid eligibility files to determine enrollment status at the time of unintentional death from prescription opioid poisoning from 2003 to 2012 in Montana.

Increases in heroin overdose deaths - 28 States, 2010 to 2012.

Nationally, death rates from prescription opioid pain reliever (OPR) overdoses quadrupled during 1999-2010, whereas rates from heroin overdoses increased by <50%. Individual states and cities have reported substantial increases in deaths from heroin overdose since 2010. CDC analyzed recent mortality data from 28 states to determine the scope of the heroin overdose death increase and to determine whether increases were associated with changes in OPR overdose death rates since 2010.
