Case: We present a case involving a 26-year-old male who sustained an iatrogenic injury to the right popliteal artery and vein during open fibular collateral ligament reconstruction. The lesions were repaired immediately and required subsequent procedures on postoperative day 1.
Conclusions: Iatrogenic vascular injuries during knee surgery can be devastating for patients and may lead to increased medical costs, unexpected hospital admissions, and additional surgical procedures.
The number of so-called new psychoactive substances (NPS) is still increasing by modification of the chemical structure of known (scheduled) drugs. As analogues of amphetamines, 2-aminopropyl-benzofurans were sold. They were consumed because of their euphoric and empathogenic effects.

They were consumed as stimulants or entactogens with euphoric and empathogenic effects. Being controlled in some countries, both compounds should be covered by drug testing in clinical and forensic toxicology.

The aim of the present work was to study the phase I and phase II metabolism of 4-MEC in human urine as well as in pooled human liver microsome (pHLM) incubations. The urine samples were worked up with and without enzymatic cleavage, the pHLM incubations by simple deproteinization.

CFA is an analogue of fencamfamine, an appetite suppressant developed in the 1960s. The described effects of CFA are slight stimulation and increased vigilance and the side effects are tachycardia, paranoia, and sleeplessness.

Several studies showed similar potencies in releasing noradrenalin and dopamine, but higher potencies in releasing serotonin than amphetamine. In March 2013, the EU Council decided on an EU-wide control based on the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction risk assessment report documenting that 4-MA was sold as amphetamine on the illicit market and detected in several fatal cases.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDimethocaine (DMC, larocaine), a synthetic derivative of cocaine, is a widely distributed "legal high" consumed as a "new psychoactive substance" (NPS) without any safety testing, for example studies of metabolism. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to study its in-vivo and in-vitro metabolism by use of liquid chromatography-(high resolution) mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS(n)). DMC was administered to male Wistar rats (20 mg kg(-1)) and their urine was extracted either by solid-phase extraction after enzymatic cleavage of conjugates or by use of protein precipitation (PP).

The aims of the presented study were to identify the phases I and II metabolites of MXE in rat and human urine by GC-MS and LC-high-resolution (HR)-MS(n) and to evaluate their detectability by GC-MS and LC-MS(n) using authors' standard urine screening approaches (SUSAs). Furthermore, human cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes were identified to be involved in the initial metabolic steps of MXE in vitro, and respective enzyme kinetic studies using the metabolite formation and substrate depletion approach were conducted.

The first samples were seized by the German police in 2011. As it is a recreational stimulant, its inclusion in routine drug screening protocols should be required.

As they are no longer available, a fast, simple, and cost-effective quantitative gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method was developed and fully validated for these drugs.
Methods: After simple and fast liquid-liquid extraction, the samples were analyzed by GC-MS using the selected ion monitoring mode.
