Cohesin recently emerged as a new regulator of hematopoiesis and leukemia. In addition to cohesin, whether proteins that regulate cohesin's function have any direct role in hematopoiesis and hematologic diseases have not been fully examined. Separase, encoded by the ESPL1 gene, is an important regulator of cohesin's function.

Methods: From January 2009 to December 2012, we compared patients treated with IV stroke thrombolysis by telestroke in the form of telephone consultation with teleradiology, to patients treated after in-person assessment by the same team of neurologists in a regional hospital.
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-tumor effects of Ad/gTRAIL (an adenoviral vector in which expression of GFP and TRAIL is driven by a human telomerase reverse transcriptase promoter, hTERT) on malignant meningiomas and gliomas.
Background: Gliomas and meningiomas are the two most common types of human brain tumors. Currently there is no effective cure for recurrent malignant meningiomas or for gliomas.
The NO and cGMP signaling pathways are of broad physiological and pathological significance. We compared the NO/soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC)/cGMP pathway in human glioma tissues and cell lines with that of healthy control samples and demonstrated that sGC expression is significantly lower in glioma preparations. Our analysis of GEO databases (National Cancer Institute) further revealed a statistically significant reduction of sGC transcript levels in human glioma specimens.

Due to its ease of administration, long-term tolerability, and low incidence of long-term side effects, we explored its potential as a therapeutic agent against meningiomas by examining its efficacy in vitro against such cells in primary culture. Cells, cultured from freshly resected benign, atypical, or malignant meningiomas, were exposed to fenretinide (10 mumol/L).
