Background: People affected by the criminal legal system face significant challenges accessing food assistance.

Methods: We estimated the prevalence of food insecurity among women involved in the criminal legal system (WICL) and members of their risk network using a secondary analysis.

Results: Among 104 participants, over one-third were food insecure, 97% of whom lived in an economically disadvantaged ZIP Code.

Providing Epistemic Support For Assessments Through Mobile-Supported Sharing Activities.

This paper examines how participants in face-to-face conversation employ mobile phones as a resource for social action. We focus on what we call , in which participants use a mobile phone to share text or images with others by voicing text aloud from their mobile or providing others with visual access to the device's display screen. Drawing from naturalistic video recordings, we focus on how mobile-supported sharing activities invite assessments by providing access to an object that is not locally accessible to the participants.

Psychometrics of the preschooler physical activity parenting practices instrument among a Latino sample.

Background: Latino preschoolers (3-5 year old children) have among the highest rates of obesity. Low levels of physical activity (PA) are a risk factor for obesity. Characterizing what Latino parents do to encourage or discourage their preschooler to be physically active can help inform interventions to increase their PA.

Methods: Nominal Group Technique (NGT), a structured multi-step group procedure, was used to elicit and prioritize responses from 10 groups of Hispanic parents regarding what parents do to encourage (5 groups) or discourage (5 groups) preschool aged children to be active.

Both physical and social environmental factors influence young children's physical activity, yet little is known about where Hispanic children are more likely to be active. We assessed the feasibility of simultaneously measuring, then processing objective measures of location and physical activity among Hispanic preschool children. Preschool-aged Hispanic children (n = 15) simultaneously wore QStarz BT100X global positioning system (GPS) data loggers and Actigraph GT3X accelerometers for a 24- to 36-hour period, during which time their parents completed a location and travel diary.

In this article we use a culture-centered approach to understand people's experiences of treatment options for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related peripheral neuropathy. We present from often unheard and marginalized voices the stories of how people live with this chronic illness and negotiate treatment options. Based on individual and group interviews, participants reported that biomedical pills were an important context for understanding decision making regarding neuropathy treatment.
