A framework for graduate leadership education for sustainability guided by the SDGs.

In this article, we outline the work of using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in graduate leadership education for sustainability (GLES). We identify how the SDGs can serve as an effective operationalization of the concept of sustainability, propose a framework of GLES, provide specific examples of the use of the SDGs in graduate education, and share recommendations for fostering GLES.

Centralization errors in comparative genomic hybridization array analysis of pituitary tumor samples.

Reliable interpretation of comparative genomic hybridization array (aCGH) results requires centralization and normalization of the data. We evaluated the reliability of aCGH centralization by comparing aCGH results (with classical centralization-normalization steps) to fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) results. In addition, we propose a method to correct centralization bias.

The trans-generational impact of population density signals on host-parasite interactions.

Background: The density of a host population is a key parameter underlying disease transmission, but it also has implications for the expression of disease through its effect on host physiology. In response to higher densities, individuals are predicted to either increase their immune investment in response to the elevated risk of parasitism, or conversely to decrease their immune capacity as a consequence of the stress of a crowded environment. However, an individual's health is shaped by many different factors, including their genetic background, current environmental conditions, and maternal effects.

Burkitt cells on a peripheral blood smear: how to deal with?

The diagnosis of double hit lymphoma remains a challenge for the biologist for a good management of the patient. This new category of lymphoma "double hit" (DH) is part of a new entity of the WHO classification 2008: « Unclassifiable B lymphoma with features intermediate between diffuse large cell B lymphoma and Burkitt's lymphoma ». It is defined by the presence of a breakpoint at the locus 8q24 of the c-MYC gene associated with a recurrent translocation involving BCL2 genes primarily BCL6 or more rarely CCDN1 or BCL3 genes.

Efficacy and safety profile of long-term exposure to lenalidomide in patients with recurrent multiple myeloma.

Background: Lenalidomide in combination with dexamethasone (Len/Dex) is indicated for patients with recurrent/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) who were treated with 1 prior therapy until evidence of disease progression. The objective of the current study was to determine the efficacy and safety profile of long-term exposure to Len/Dex.

Methods: A total of 50 patients with RRMM who were treated with long-term Len for ≥ 2 years from 2 Intergroupe Francophone du Myélome (IFM) centers (Lille and Nancy) were included in the current study.

Neuropathological features in a female fetus with OPHN1 deletion and cerebellar hypoplasia.

We report the case of a 33-year-old pregnant woman. The third-trimester ultrasound scan during pregnancy revealed fetal bilateral ventricular dilatation, macrosomia and a transverse diameter of the cerebellum at the 30th centile. A brain MRI scan at 31 weeks of gestation led to a diagnosis of hypoplasia of the cerebellar vermis without hemisphere abnormalities and a non compressive expansion of the cisterna magna.

Autologous stem cell transplantation: an effective salvage therapy in multiple myeloma.

Eighty-one patients treated with high-dose therapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) as part of salvage therapy after a frontline ASCT were included in a retrospective analysis. The median time between the first and the salvage ASCT was 47 months. After salvage ASCT, 75 patients (93%) achieved at least a partial response, including 67% very good partial responses, and no toxic death was reported.
