Heterotopic pancreas of the gallbladder: A case report of a rare and commonly incidental finding.

Heterotopic pancreas (HP) refers to the presence of ectopic pancreatic tissue located outside of the normal pancreatic location without anatomical or vascular continuity with the pancreas. HP within the gallbladder (HPGB) was first described by Otschkin in 1916. It remains an exceedingly rare pathology with few reported cases.

Improving Childhood Immunization Service Delivery in Cameroon: A Synthesis of Caregiver Experiences and Recommendations.

Background/objectives: A "people-centered" approach is one of the core principles of the Immunization Agenda (IA) 2030 and emphasizes the need for services to be organized around the needs and expectations of individuals and the community. A better understanding of the immunization experience from the client's perspective is key to guiding the design of policies and interventions aimed at improving immunization delivery and coverage. This study provides a synthesis of the immunization experiences of children's caregivers in Cameroon, highlighting potential barriers for timely and complete immunization.

Childhood maltreatment as a predictor of substance use/misuse among youth: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively describe whether experiencing a variety of childhood maltreatment types predicts a variety of substance use/misuse types among youth, beyond the narrow scope covered in previous systematic reviews on similar topics. A literature search was conducted in June, 2022 using PubMed, PsycInfo, and Embase. 58 studies (total participant n=170,749) were included.

Digital telomere measurement by long-read sequencing distinguishes healthy aging from disease.

Telomere length is an important biomarker of organismal aging and cellular replicative potential, but existing measurement methods are limited in resolution and accuracy. Here, we deploy digital telomere measurement by nanopore sequencing to understand how distributions of human telomere length change with age and disease. We measure telomere attrition and elongation with unprecedented resolution in genetically defined populations of human cells, in blood cells from healthy donors and in blood cells from patients with genetic defects in telomere maintenance.

Background: Immunization is regarded as one of the most cost-effective public health interventions in global health. However, its cost-effectiveness depends greatly on the knowledge and skills of vaccinators. With the growing complexity of immunization programs, the need for a well-trained vaccination workforce cannot be overemphasized.

Patient representation in New Zealand general practice and rural health case-based teaching: a quality improvement exercise.

Introduction Healthcare inequity disproportionately affects minority populations in Aotearoa New Zealand. Healthcare providers may contribute to inequity due to their biases. Medical education can unintentionally promote biases by reinforcing stereotypes or limiting exposure to diversity.

Physician-directed genetic screening to evaluate personal risk for medically actionable disorders: a large multi-center cohort study.

Background: The use of proactive genetic screening for disease prevention and early detection is not yet widespread. Professional practice guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) have encouraged reporting pathogenic variants that confer personal risk for actionable monogenic hereditary disorders, but only as secondary findings from exome or genome sequencing. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes the potential public health impact of three Tier 1 actionable disorders.

Exome and genome sequencing in adults with undiagnosed disease: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Exome and genome sequencing have been demonstrated to increase diagnostic yield in paediatric populations, improving treatment options and providing risk information for relatives. There are limited studies examining the clinical utility of these tests in adults, who currently have limited access to this technology.

Methods: Patients from adult and cancer genetics clinics across Toronto, Ontario, Canada were recruited into a prospective cohort study evaluating the diagnostic utility of exome and genome sequencing in adults.

Retromer subunit, VPS29, regulates synaptic transmission and is required for endolysosomal function in the aging brain.

Retromer, including Vps35, Vps26, and Vps29, is a protein complex responsible for recycling proteins within the endolysosomal pathway. Although implicated in both Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, our understanding of retromer function in the adult brain remains limited, in part because and are essential for development. In , we find that is dispensable for embryogenesis but required for retromer function in aging adults, including for synaptic transmission, survival, and locomotion.

Knowledge and attitudes to prescription charges in New Zealand and England.

Background: Prescription charge regimes vary between countries but there is little research on how much people know about these or support values underlying them.

Objective: To explore, in New Zealand (NZ) and England, the public's knowledge of, and attitudes to, charges and whether knowledge and attitudes varied by demographic characteristics or by values about entitlement to public goods.

Method: A questionnaire was developed and administered to people over 18 recruited in public places in NZ and England.

Perception of malaria risk in a setting of reduced malaria transmission: a qualitative study in Zanzibar.

Background: Malaria transmission has declined dramatically in Zanzibar in recent years. Continuing use of preventive measures such as long-lasting insecticidal-treated nets (LLINs), and use of malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are essential to prevent malaria resurgence. This study employed qualitative methods to explore community perceptions of malaria risk and adherence to prevention measures in two districts in Zanzibar.
