Background: Unnecessary laboratory testing of hospitalized patients is prevalent.
Objective: We conducted a study focused on "mindful ordering" to decrease unnecessary laboratory ordering within an Internal Medicine residency program.
Designs, Settings And Participants: We collected survey data on resident/faculty perceptions of laboratory ordering as well as order information from the electronic medical record (EMR).
Introduction: Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP) is a complex, multifaceted condition that affects both women and men. There is limited literature on the cost utilization the healthcare system and CPP patients incur. The purpose of this analysis is to characterize the overall healthcare utilization, cost burden, and quality-of-life restrictions experienced by CPP patients using data from an outpatient pelvic rehabilitation practice.

A 34-y-old pregnant woman previously diagnosed with vulvodynia, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and depression used an elimination diet and nutritional supplementation-from 15 wk pregnant to 22 wk postpartum-to resolve her vulvodynia and IBS, and to reduce her use of antidepressant medication. This case demonstrates the potential usefulness of incorporating a customized functional nutritional approach to evaluate potential proinflammatory foods and nutritional insufficiencies in perinatal patients and postnatal patients.

Background: A 28-y-old athletic woman was diagnosed with vulvodynia and long-term irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and was treated successfully with an elimination diet.
Case/intervention: In the course of 6 mo of nutrition therapy utilizing an elimination diet, specific foods triggering abdominal bloating and pain, and vulvovaginal pain were identified. In the course of treatment, the nutrition and supplement program instituted for this patient allowed her to return to her prior functional level without pain (including sexual activity) and resolution of her IBS.
Introduction Tissue dissection and vessel sealing is performed using a variety of energy sources and surgical devices. We describe the postmarketing analysis of a cordless ultrasonic dissector and vessel sealer in a series of general and gynecological procedures. Methods Patients were prospectively screened and consented for participation.
