Scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) wrist results from an untreated scapholunate dissociation and is the most common type of degenerative arthritis of the wrist. The most common surgical treatments for SLAC wrist are proximal row carpectomy and four-corner fusion with scaphoid excision. Arthroscopic surgical treatment for SLAC wrist has been reported; however, only limited data on functional outcomes are available.

Proteinase 3 (PR3) anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) and anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies have been associated with a variety of nephritic diseases, most recognizably granulomatosis with polyangiitis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) glomerulonephritis, respectively. We report the first clinical case of positive PR3 and dsDNA in a patient with renal Immunoglobin light chain (AL) amyloidosis. A 75-year-old man presented to the hospital with chronic fatigue, weight loss, and a recent diagnosis of left ventricular infiltrative cardiomyopathy secondary to AL amyloidosis.

Article Synopsis
  • * Patients were divided into two groups based on FEV1%: normal (≥80%) and reduced (<80%). The reduced FEV1% group experienced more complications like prolonged air leaks and pneumonia, and had longer surgery times and higher blood loss.
  • * Overall survival was significantly lower for those with reduced FEV1%, averaging 58.9 months compared to 93.2 months for those with normal FEV1%, highlighting the importance of preoperative PFTs in identifying at

Growing interest in the pathogenesis of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) has led to emerging evidence implicating a role for oxidative stress. However, understanding the strength of this association is made challenging by the use of a variety of purported biomarkers of oxidative stress, many of which have either uncertain specificity or flawed methods of analysis. This review aims to address this issue, which is widespread in the ASD and IDD literature, by providing readers with information concerning the strengths and limitations of the choice and analysis of biomarkers of oxidative stress.

Background: Since the advent of ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP), there has been increased focus on swine models of lung transplantation; however, the anatomic differences between human and swine lungs and the technical challenges in performing porcine lung transplantation are not well described in the surgical literature.

Methods: Surgically important anatomic variations are described, and the technical measures taken to address them during harvest and transplantation are introduced.

Results: There are three surgically important anatomic variations in pigs.

A low load tribology technique for studying the effects of friction on living cells was developed. Results show a direct relationship between the coefficient of friction (COF) and the extent of cell damage. The COF, mu, for a glass pin on an intact layer of human corneal epithelial cells is determined to be on the order of mu = 0.
