Dung serves as a critical resource for diverse organisms, including dung-inhabiting fungi, which play a key role in nutrient cycling. In this study, we examined the decomposition rates and half-lives of dung from ruminant and monogastric herbivores in a microcosm experiment, assessing the impact of autoclaving (fungal exclusion) on decomposition dynamics. Over six months, autoclaved dung decomposed more slowly, retaining greater biomass and highlighting the fungi's role in matter cycling.

The biodiversity of Brazil provides an excellent climate and favorable pollination conditions for L., especially in the Eastern Amazon region, which boasts vast floral wealth, including an abundance of açaí () flowers and fruits. Gamete surface protein P48/45 has been shown to be important for male gamete fertility and a strong candidate for the development of a malaria transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV). However, TBV development for homolog Pvs48/45 has been slow because of a number of challenges: availability of conformationally suitable recombinant protein; the lack of an challenge model; and the inability to produce gametocytes in culture to test transmission-blocking activity of antibodies.
