Background: An increasing number of individuals who present to health care professionals identify as transgender, gender nonconforming (GNC), and gender nonbinary (NB). GNC/NB individuals experience higher rates of discrimination in health care settings compared with their binary (e.g.

In order to address potential barriers and facilitators in GAS education and training, there is a need to explore the experiences of TGNC individuals. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively explore the factors that influence TGNC patient experiences in surgical consultation for GAS.

The purpose of this report is to describe 2 cases of arterial compromise requiring medical and surgical intervention at or beyond 6 months after radial forearm free flap (RFFF) phalloplasty and to define the phenomenon of ultradelayed arterial thrombosis.
Methods: Patient 1 is a 44-year-old transmale who presented with pulselessness, pallor, and hypersensitivity of his neophallus 10 years status post-RFFF phalloplasty using a saphenous vein interposition graft (SVIG) between the superficial femoral artery (SFA) and radial artery (RA).
Background: Two procedures that have demonstrated collagen-stimulating properties and improvements in skin laxity in a variety of aesthetic indications are microfocused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) and injection with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA).
Objectives: By treating skin laxity with a combination of these therapies, it was hypothesized that our patients would experience improved appearance and quality of life as measured by the BODY-Q.
Methods: A total of 60 consecutive female patients aged 30 to 60 years with body mass index less than 28 kg/m2 who expressed interest in treatment for skin laxity affecting the outer thighs completed selected scales (Body Image, Appraisal of Excess Skin, Satisfaction with Hips and Outer Thighs, and Appearance-Related Psychosocial Distress) from the BODY-Q within 1 week of treatment.
Background: Absorbable suspension sutures are the only nonsurgical modality approved for tissue repositioning.
Objectives: To quantitate patient perceptions of treatment at 24 months and determine the impact of age and prior surgical procedures on perceptions of efficacy, treatment longevity, and overall satisfaction. In addition, the authors sought to describe the impact of treatment with absorbable suspension sutures on the likelihood a patient will undergo future surgical procedures.
Background And Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine charges following unilateral mastectomy (UM) and bilateral mastectomy (BM) for patients with unilateral breast cancer (UBC). We hypothesized that BM may be associated with fewer charges over time.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted of patients with UBC treated between 2006 and 2010 with UM and BM in a large healthcare system.
Background: Gender dysphoria is estimated to occur in up to 0.4% of the US population. Gender-confirming surgery (GCS) has been shown to improve the quality of life of transgender patients.

The aesthetic benefits of delayed-immediate reconstruction compared to delayed reconstruction are postulated but remain unproven. The purpose of this study was to compare aesthetic outcomes in patients following delayed and delayed-immediate autologous breast reconstruction.

Methods: This retrospective, historical, cohort-control study examined the impact of negative-pressure wound therapy with and without instillation.
Results: One hundred forty-two patients (negative-pressure wound therapy, n = 74; therapy with instillation, 6-minute dwell time, n = 34; and therapy with instillation, 20-minute dwell time, n = 34) were included in the analysis.
A 28-year-old otherwise healthy man was admitted to the burn center for treatment of toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) involving 90% of the TBSA and oropharynx. On hospital day 8, his cutaneous lesions were healing well, but he developed respiratory distress, fever, and abdominal distension. Computerized tomography demonstrated distended bowel, pneumatosis intestinalis, and portal venous gas.

Using a novel Saccharomyces cerevisiae model system for aging and cancer, we show that cells lacking the RecQ helicase SGS1 (WRN and BLM homologue) undergo premature age-related changes, including reduced life span under stress and calorie restriction (CR), G1 arrest defects, dedifferentiation, elevated recombination errors, and age-dependent increase in DNA mutations. Lack of SGS1 results in a 110-fold increase in gross chromosomal rearrangement frequency during aging of nondividing cells compared with that generated during the initial population expansion.
