Colorectal cancer (CRC) poses significant challenges in chemotherapy response prediction due to its molecular heterogeneity. This study introduces an innovative methodology that leverages gene expression data generated from matched colorectal tumor and organoid samples to enhance prediction accuracy. By applying Consensus Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) across multiple datasets, we identify critical gene modules and hub genes that correlate with patient responses, particularly to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU).

Methods: A live electronic survey explored the preferred treatment approach and TNT regimen for early-, intermediate-, bad-, and advanced-risk categories of rectal cancer according to the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines.

BVES is underexpressed in a number of malignancies, including colorectal cancer. BVES loss leads to activation of the Wnt pathway, suggesting that decreased BVES expression functionally contributes to tumorigenesis.

We sought to determine whether it was worth the financial cost for residency programs to support degrees.
Design: We reviewed graduating chief residents (n = 69) in general surgery at Vanderbilt University from 2001 to 2010 and collected the data including research time and additional degrees obtained.
The glutathione peroxidases, a family of selenocysteine-containing redox enzymes, play pivotal roles in balancing the signaling, immunomodulatory, and deleterious effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The glutathione peroxidase GPX3 is the only extracellular member of this family, suggesting it may defend cells against ROS in the extracellular environment. Notably, GPX3 hypermethylation and underexpression occur commonly in prostate, gastric, cervical, thyroid, and colon cancers.
