Gene expression in the placenta, assessed by bulk RNA-seq, is a common method to explore placental function. Many rodent studies homogenize the entire placenta, and yet doing so may obscure differences within specific functional regions such as the labyrinth, junctional zone and decidua. Conversely, analysis of the whole placenta could generate apparent differences due to changes in composition (e.

Guidelines now recommend inpatient continuous glucose monitor (CGM) use with confirmatory blood glucose measurements. However, the Food and Drug Administration has not yet officially approved CGM for inpatient use in large part because its accuracy has not been established in this setting. We tested the accuracy of the Dexcom G6 (G6) in 28 adults on an insulin infusion in a medical-surgical intensive care unit with 1064 matched CGM and arterial point-of-care pairs.

Background: It is hypothesized that male fetuses prioritize growth, resulting in increased mortality, whereas females reduce growth in the presence of adversity. Preeclampsia reflects a chronic condition, in which fetuses have the opportunity to adjust growth. If females reduce their growth in response to preeclampsia, but males attempt to maintain growth at the cost of survival, we predict that differences in birthweight between preeclamptic and non-preeclamptic pregnancies will be greater among females, whereas differences in mortality will be greater among males.

Article Synopsis
  • Nesidioblastosis is a rare pancreatic condition characterized by the enlargement of beta cells that produce excessive insulin, leading to fasting hypoglycemia.
  • A 53-year-old woman diagnosed with the condition underwent various imaging tests which initially showed no abnormalities, but selective arterial calcium stimulation confirmed increased insulin production from some pancreatic arteries.
  • The diagnosis was confirmed through histopathology after surgery, and post-operation, the patient achieved normal glucose levels and resolved hypoglycemia, indicating a limited extent of the disease within the pancreas.
