Methods and Results Since the protocol was initiated, 102 patients have been referred for revascularization according to the following high-risk criteria: severe renal artery stenosis (≥70%) with true resistant hypertension, rapidly declining kidney function, or recurrent heart failure/sudden pulmonary edema. Objective: We investigated whether oily fish consumption modulated serum triacylglycerol and diastolic blood pressure (coprimary outcomes) and other cardiometabolic markers in healthy Danish children and whether effects were sex-specific.
Rationale & Objective: Patients with kidney failure treated with maintenance dialysis experience a high rate of mortality, in part due to sudden cardiac death caused by arrhythmias. The prevalence of arrhythmias, including the subset that are clinically significant, is not well known. This study sought to estimate the prevalence of arrhythmias, characterize the pattern of arrhythmic events in relation to dialysis treatments, and identify associated clinical characteristics.

Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of marine -3 PUFA on 24-h HRV in patients on chronic dialysis, who have a high risk of sudden cardiac death. Between June 2014 and March 2016, 112 patients on chronic dialysis from Denmark were allocated to a daily supplement of 2 g marine -3 PUFA or control for three months in a randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial.

Only a few smaller studies have examined such effects in patients on chronic dialysis, who often have autonomic dysfunction and a high risk of sudden cardiac death, which accounts for almost 30 % of all deaths. This cross-sectional study investigated the association between the plasma phospholipid content of n-3 PUFA and 24-h HRV or ventricular arrhythmias in patients on chronic dialysis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground/aim: Hemodialysis using high cutoff (HCO) filters possibly improves renal function in diseases with light chain (LC) overproduction and acute kidney injury. We established the effect of HCO dialysis on renal outcome in consecutive patients with malignant monoclonal gammopathies and LC cast nephropathy.
Methods: LC concentration was measured before and after each dialysis session in 10 patients receiving HCO dialysis and bortezomib-based chemotherapy, and their renal function was monitored by plasma creatinine.
Acute kidney injury secondary to precipitation of acyclovir crystals in the kidneys is well known and mainly observed in the setting of dehydration or pre-existing renal impairment. We describe a case of acute kidney injury secondary to intravenous administration of acyclovir in a 64-year-old female with trans-versal myelitis and no prior medical history. She developed a rapid rise in the plasma creatinine level only seven hours after the primary drug administration.
