Background: The aim of this study was to assess the utility of the Coonrad-Morrey elbow prosthesis in patients with severe elbow dysfunction secondary to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or post-traumatic elbow dysfunction.
Material/methods: The study involved 35 patients followed up for a mean of 36 months. The patients were divided into those with RA (Group I) and those with post-traumatic elbow dysfunction (Group II).
Background: If anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is to be performed, decision regarding graft choice and its fixation remains one of the most controversial. Multiple techniques for ACL reconstruction are available. To avoid disadvantages related to fixation devices, a hardware-free, press-fit ACL reconstruction technique was developed.

Background: An enchondroma is a rather common benign tumour of bone that originates from cartilage. The course is usually benign but they have a tendency to recur and are sometimes invasive, especially when developing in long bones. The aim of the study was to analyze the manifestations and methods of treatment as well as to assess the results of surgical treatment in patients with enchondroma.

Background: A common feature of dysplasia fibrosa and defectus fibrosus is the development of foci of disordered fibrous tissue in bone that tend to grow and displace regular bone tissue. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of surgical treatment with bone allografts in patients with fibrous dysplasia and fibrous defect of bone.
Material And Methods: The study group consisted of 99 patients aged from 9 to 58 years (mean age 22 years), including 56 men and 43 women.

This work presents the tactics of surgical procedures in 40 patients who underwent revision of the hip joint due to isolated loosening of the acetabular component of the endoprosthesis. The studied group were operated between 2004 to 2006 without the use of mechanical support systems. Realloplasty of the acetabular component involved the evaluation of: etiology of acetabular loosening, concomitant diseases in the operated patients, and the grade of acetabular defects according to Paprosky's classification.

Schajowicz in 1972 in his Histopathological Classification of Primary Bone Tumors (later modified by WHO in 1993) placed it in group IX - tumor-like lesions. Its etiology and pathogenesis is not completely clear.

Materials And Methods: The article presents a pre- and post-operative retrospective analysis of heterotopic ossification based on radiographic evidence. The study involved 77 patients below forty years old who underwent THR due to degenerative changes.

Background: Anterolateral soft tissue impingement of the ankle joint is a common consequence of ankle sprain due to excessive supination and adduction of the foot, injuries to the tibiofibular syndesmosis and lateral malleolus fractures.
Material And Methods: Twenty-two arthroscopic procedures to treat anterolateral soft tissue impingement of the ankle joint were performed at the Independent Public Regional Hospital of Trauma Surgery in Piekary Slaskie between 2006 and 2007. The study group included male patients at the mean age of 34 (17 to 55) years.
Background: Chondral lesions are often documented at the time of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. They are usually asymptomatic. It is not known if these lesions change the outcome of current ACL treatments.

The study included 62 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty. Group A consisted of 32 patients who were physically rehabilitated.

The experimental investigation was carried out on a knee endoprosthesis which had been placed in a container with physiological saline. The prosthesis located inside the container was under the exposure of the magnetic field applied by a solenoid.

The development of knowledge about the anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder allows, based on detailed examination, to precise localization of the shoulder dysfunction. Subacromial impingement syndrome is the most common cause of pain as well as of limited motion of the shoulder region.

The aim of this study was to assess early results of anterior cervical decompression and arthroplasty for cervical disc disease. The results of operations of 32 patients (43 instrumented levels) were examined to assess clinical outcome, the restoration of disc height, postoperative lordosis, mobility of instrumented segment and complication rate. Clinical outcome evaluated with VAS score improved from 7.

The choice of appropriate treatment of recurrent lateral patellar dislocation (RPD) is the source of constant debate because of unacceptable treatment outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess the outcome of operative treatment of RPD with the use of proximal realignment method by Insall. 94 patients (109 knees), who were present at the final examination, after the average follow-up 6.

Total arthroplasty is the primary surgical method used in patients with extensive deformations of the knee joint in the course of osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. Good outcome after arthroplasty depends on the proper identification of indications, good surgical technique, and the proper postoperative treatment and rehabilitation. In postoperative treatment appropriate conditions should be provided for healing of the damaged tissues and prevention of early and late complications.

Background. One of the most important elements of a properly performed arthroscopy, apart from the surgeon's experience is an appropriate type of anesthesia chosen by the anesthesiologist. The type of anesthesia depends on many factors, for example the patient's general condition, the type and extent of the knee injury, the planned extension and time of the operation (diagnostic arthroscopy, operative arthroscopy), the place of the performed operation (hospital, ambulatory conditions) and last but not least the anesthesiologist's experience and the equipment of the operation theatre.

Total knee replacement (TKR) is a successful and reproducible operation with good long-term prosthesis survivorship and good or excellent functional outcomes: over 95% at 10 years. TKR is presently indicated also for younger patients (<55 years) suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, as well as posttraumatic and idiopathic arthritis. However, some controversies remain concerning surgical techniques.
