Article Synopsis
- This study assessed the validity of the sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT) symptom dimension in children, identifying ten specific symptoms associated with SCT.
- Teacher and parent ratings of children (ages 5 to 13) indicated that several SCT symptoms displayed strong convergence with the SCT factor while remaining distinct from ADHD-inattentive (ADHD-IN) symptoms.
- Higher SCT scores were linked to lower academic and social competence, as well as increased anxiety/depression, suggesting that SCT may represent a distinct condition or a different presentation of ADHD, separate from ADHD-IN and ADHD-hyperactive-impulsive (ADHD-HI).
