Water in oil emulsions represents one of the new promising generations of adjuvants for immunotherapy. Fifty years ago, incomplete freund adjuvant (IFA) has been used in clinical trials for prophylactic vaccines like poliomyelitis or flu vaccine because of its strong potency.
