Purpose: Homonymous visual field defects (HVFD) are common and frequently occur after cerebrovascular accidents. They significantly impair visual function and cause disability particularly with regard to visual exploration. The purpose of this study was to assess a novel interventional treatment of monocular prism therapy on visual functioning in patients with HVFD of varied etiology using vision targeted, health-related quality of life (QOL) questionnaires.

Microincision cataract surgery is a new technique in the development of cataract surgery and is not without difficulties. Creation of the continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis as performed in conventional coaxial phacoemulsification surgery does not apply as readily. The authors describe a method for initiating the continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis (the laparotomy incision) using only an inexpensive 25-gauge bent needle cystototome.

Purpose: Recent evidence has suggested that the tumor-suppressor gene p53 has a role in regulating antioxidant response in cancer cells. This study was conducted to determine whether p53 regulates redox enzymes in a neuronal context in RGCs and whether this regulation contributes to an increased survival signal.
Methods: The expression of p53, and its putative responsive antioxidant enzymes sestrin 2, catalase, Cu/ZnSOD, and MnSOD were evaluated in the developing rat retina by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.
