Overweight patients with cancer are frequently reduced in chemotherapy dose due to toxicity concerns, although previous studies have indicated that dose reduction (DR) of overweight patients results in comparable toxicity but may compromise overall survival (OS). Kinesins are regulated in space and time to ensure activation only in the presence of cargo. Kinesin-binding protein (KIFBP), which is mutated in Goldberg-Shprintzen syndrome, binds to and inhibits the catalytic motor heads of 8 of 45 kinesin superfamily members, but the mechanism remains poorly defined. Here, we used cryo–electron microscopy and cross-linking mass spectrometry to determine high-resolution structures of KIFBP alone and in complex with two mitotic kinesins, revealing structural remodeling of kinesin by KIFBP.

The regulation of actin is key for controlled cellular function. Filaments are regulated by actin-binding proteins, but the nucleotide state of actin is also an important factor. From extended molecular dynamics simulations, we find that both nucleotide states of the actin monomer have significantly less twist than their crystal structures and that the ATP monomer is flatter than the ADP form.

Ammine metal borohydrides show potential for solid-state hydrogen storage and can be tailored toward hydrogen release at low temperatures. Here, we report the synthesis and structural characterization of seven new ammine metal borohydrides, (BH)·NH, M = La ( = 6, 4, or 3) or Ce ( = 6, 5, 4, or 3). The two compounds with = 6 are isostructural and have new orthorhombic structure types (space group 222) built from cationic complexes, [(NH)(BH)], and are charge balanced by BH.

Objectives: The diagnosis and treatment of acute leukaemia (AL) affect physical, psychosocial and existential functioning. Long-lasting treatment periods with impaired immune system, hygienic and social restrictions challenge patient well-being and rehabilitation as compared with other individuals with cancer. Altering the decomposition pathway of potassium alanate, KAlH4, with aluminium sulfide, Al2S3, presents a new opportunity to release all of the hydrogen, increase the volumetric hydrogen capacity and avoid complications associated with the formation of KH and molten K. Decomposition of 6KAlH4-Al2S3 during heating under dynamic vacuum began at 185 °C, 65 °C lower than for pure KAlH4, and released 71% of the theoretical hydrogen content below 300 °C via several unknown compounds. The new compound Sr(BH4)2(NH3BH3)2 has been synthesized and characterized with in situ powder X-ray diffraction and fast (28 or 60 kHz) magic angle spinning 1H, 11B and 15N NMR and structurally optimized with density functional theory calculations. This investigation reveals complex structural rearrangements for this compound as a function of temperature. A room temperature orthorhombic polymorph, α-Sr(BH4)2(NH3BH3)2, with the space group symmetry Pbca, has been determined with a layered structure of alternating ammonia borane and Sr(BH4)2, partially stabilized by dihydrogen bonding.

Point mutations in γ-cytoplasmic actin have been shown to result in autosomal-dominant, nonsyndromic, early-onset deafness. Two mutations at the same site, K118M and K118N, provide a unique opportunity to compare the effects of two dissimilar amino acid substitutions that produce a similar phenotype in humans. K118 resides in a helix that runs from K113 to T126, and mutations that alter the position, dynamics, and/or biochemistry of this helix can result in a wide range of pathologies.

Previous studies have shown modified thermodynamics of amide-hydride composites by cation substitution, while this work systematically investigates lithium-sodium-amide, Li-Na-N-H, based systems. Li3Na(NH2)4 has been synthesized by combined ball milling and annealing of 3LiNH2-NaNH2 with LiNa2(NH2)3 as a minor by-product. Li3+xNa1-x(NH2)4 releases NaNH2 and forms non-stoichiometric Li3+xNa1-x(NH2)4 before it melts at 234 °C, as observed by in situ powder X-ray diffraction.

Purpose: In recent years, patients with acute leukemia (AL) have, to a greater extent, been managed in an outpatient setting where they live at home but appear every other day for follow-up visits at hospital. This qualitative article elucidates how patients with AL experience the different conditions of the inpatient and outpatient settings and how they reflect on these transitions in order to create meaning in and keep up everyday life.

A new series of solvent- and halide-free ammine strontium metal borohydrides Sr(NH3 )n (BH4 )2 (n=1, 2, and 4) and further investigations of Ca(NH3 )n (BH4 )2 (n=1, 2, 4, and 6) are presented. Crystal structures have been determined by powder XRD and optimized by DFT calculations to evaluate the strength of the dihydrogen bonds. Sr(NH3 )(BH4 )2 (Pbcn) and Sr(NH3 )2 (BH4 )2 (Pnc2) are layered structures, whereas M(NH3 )4 (BH4 )2 (M=Ca and Sr; P21 /c) are molecular structures connected by dihydrogen bonds.

The first Al-based amidoborane Na[Al(NH2 BH3 )4 ] was obtained through a mechanochemical treatment of the NaAlH4 -4 AB (AB=NH3 BH3 ) composite releasing 4.5 wt % of pure hydrogen. The same amidoborane was also produced upon heating the composite at 70 °C.
